A Tire Repair Worker changes and repairs tires and tubes for various types of automotive and heavy duty motorized equipment and performs other related duties as required.

Current Vacancy Information:
There is one (1) vacancy with the Department of Facility Maintenance, Automotive Equipment Services Division, located in Honolulu at Halawa Baseyard.

Under the general supervision, this position is responsible for changing and repairing tires and tubes for various types of light, medium and heavy duty motorized equipment applies applicable safety practices, rules and procedures and performs all duties in a safe and acceptable manner.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Inspecting tires on equipment to determine the need for replacement.
  • Changing and repairing various types of tires and sizes from passenger vehicles to heavy construction equipment.
  • Operating vehicles within the yard to the Tire shop for access to service and repair equipment and tire supply.
  • Operating tire changing machines, impact tools, hydraulic lifts and other miscellaneous tools to demount and mount tires on wheel, repair tire punctures and remove and install wheels on vehicles or equipment.
Special Working Conditions: Disaster Response Worker Exposure to a potential explosive separation of a multi-piece rim wheel or a sudden release of the contained air of a single-piece rim wheel.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT :
Some experience and/or training in changing and repairing automotive, truck, industrial and construction tires of all sizes.

Such experience must have demonstrated knowledge of the most common practices, tools, materials and equipment used in changing and repairing tires of various types and sizes and the ability to learn to readily recognize and repair tire damage remove and mount tires of all sizes and operate tire changing and dismantling equipment.

LICENSE REQUIREMENT :
Possession of a valid appropriate drivers license (automobile/Type 3), prior to appointment.
