Calling all Hawaii State Certified Journey-Worker Plumbers!
Are you currently registered with the State of Hawaii as a Master Plumber or Journey Level Plumber and tired of installing or fixing plumbing? Come and work for the City and County of Honolulu, Department of Planning and Permitting, Mechanical Code Branch, Inspection Section as an Assistant Plumbing Inspector. Instead of fixing pipes, you will be responsible for inspecting and testing plumbing, gas and sewer line installation and equipment in buildings and structures of limited size. You must ensure that the plumbing, gas and sewer lines meet the plans scope of compliance, plumbing and gas codes and other pertinent ordinances, and safety and health standards. Your work will guarantee that everyone stays safe!

Just make sure you have a personal vehicle to travel from site to site (will be reimbursed for mileage). You must be able to climb ladders, crawl under floors and crawl into attics.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

At time of application, you must be a citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT :
Equivalent to graduation from high school. Responsible work experience which demonstrated the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may be substituted for education.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT :
Three years of experience in inspecting or supervising plumbing installation work.

Such experience must have demonstrated the ability to:

  • Inspect plumbing and gas line installations and equipment and render decisions in conformity with pertinent codes and ordinances,
  • Recognize hazardous situations and determine means of correction,
  • Read and interpret plans and specifications, and plumbing and building codes and ordinances and apply them to specific cases,
  • Deal tactfully with plumbing contractors, workers, and the general public, and
  • Keep records and prepare reports.
LICENSE REQUIREMENT : 1. Current Hawaii State certificate of registration as a Master Plumber or journey level Plumber, at time of application.
2. Valid Hawaii drivers license (Type 3/automobile), prior to appointment.

Verification Requirement: You must submit a copy of your Plumbers certificate.
