Position Information

Do you have IT Help Desk experience?
The Citys Department of Information Technology, Operations Division, Help Desk Branch is seeking an Information Technology Support Technician II in Honolulu to provide technical information and assistance to departmental personnel on IT matters.

Under the general supervision of a higher level Data Processing Systems Analyst (DPSA), this position:
  • Installs, assembles, disassembles, moves, troubleshoots, tests, provides emergency repair, monitors and maintains computer resources (e.g. computers, monitors, software products, communication hardware/software, etc.).
  • Provides technical information and training for users.
  • Receives calls from the City users with IT problems and attempts to resolve the problem to the satisfaction of the users.
  • Deals with any information technology hardware/software/network infrastructure that is required by the end user to provide continuous connectivity from the desktop to other computer devices throughout the communications network (LAN).
  • Must possess the necessary skills to install, assemble, disassemble, troubleshoot, monitor, train, maintain computer resources, document problems and their resolution.
  • Requires moderate lifting of computer equipment.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

At time of application, you must be a citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT :
Equivalent to graduation from high school. Responsible work experience which demonstrated the ability too perform the essential functions of the job may be substituted for education.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT :
Two years of specialized work experience which demonstrated effective use of personal computers, peripheral equipment, and a variety of applications such as word processing, electronic mail, spreadsheet, and data base management, one year of which must have involved providing technical assistance and advice to users in resolving hardware and software problems by diagnosing and interacting with the users to provide technical instruction and information.

Such experience must have demonstrated:

  • Knowledge of personal computers, peripheral equipment such as printers, modems, disk drives, and scanners, and various application software such as word processing, electronic mail, spreadsheet, data base, etc.
  • Knowledge of basic networking concepts
  • Knowledge of basic diagnostic methods and procedures to resolve user problems and the ability to provide effective on-site and telephone support services to system users in the diagnoses and resolution of user problems
  • Knowledge of methods and techniques of training for individuals and groups and the ability to plan, coordinate and provide technical assistance, instructions, and training on the proper use of a variety of computer equipment and application programs
  • Ability to install and maintain personal computer hardware and software applications based on established practices and procedures
  • Ability to evaluate software programs functionality and effectiveness in meeting user needs
  • Ability to plan, organize and work independently.

Substitution:
An Associate of Science (AS) degree in Computer Science from a regionally-accredited college or university may be substituted for up to one year of the required experience.

A Bachelors degree in Information Computer Science (ICS) or Management Information Systems (MIS) from a regionally-accredited college or university may be substituted for the two years of required experience.
