Make a Difference:
The mission of the Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources (DANR) is to protect and preserve South Dakotas agriculture, environment, and natural resources. The successful applicant will be a member of the Livestock Services Program in DANR. The dedicated staff of professionals in the Livestock Services Program work hard to create and sustain a vision for South Dakota that is prosperous and diverse with clean air, clean water, and healthy families.

What you will do:
This position assists program staff in protecting South Dakotas water quality through the implementation of the states permitting of Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations and the safety of the states milk and egg products through implementation of statewide agricultural dairy and egg programs. The position manages data collection systems including organization of electronic documents to ensure capability of evaluating program effectiveness and efficiency, meeting reporting requirements, and monitoring compliance. The position assists program professionals with permitting processes.

Licenses and Certifications:
A valid drivers license is required.

Our ideal candidate is someone with a background in data management who desires to learn, has good interpersonal skills, and is seeking a career opportunity in public service.

Knowledge of:

  • work processes pertaining to public administration and management
  • work processes and practices pertaining to environmental permit issuance, food safety, and agriculture
  • basic research methods and statistical measures
  • database development and maintenance, including database testing.

Skill to:

  • effectively communicate and work with others to reconcile differences
  • effectively use computers and various software programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.

Ability to:

  • communicate effectively
  • establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the public
  • interpret and comprehend program rules and procedures
  • effectively plan, organize, and prioritize work activities to meet schedules and timelines
  • assess process effectiveness and develop changes or alternatives
  • train and provide guidance to staff and producers
  • use personal computers and software
  • conduct research and compile and analyze data.
