General Purpose

The Dept. of Business and Workforce Development (BWD) Marketing Coordinator will assist with marketing and communication efforts for our small business support initiatives. The Marketing Coordinator will support the Marketing Manager primarily in digital communications for both the Church Street Marketplace and Love Burlington brands.
The Church Street Marketplace District is a business improvement district created in 1981 that includes the public street and all properties that abut Church Street between Pearl and Main Streets. Each year we host some 1.5 million visitors to shop, eat, meet and greet, mark milestones, or just pass the time of day. The Marketplace hosts 30+ events annually including signature events like the Annual Sidewalk Sale, Festival of Fools, and Jazz Fest.

Love Burlington is run by the City of Burlington to support our small and locally owned business community and works to create events that celebrate the Burlington community by highlighting local artists, creators, chefs and retailers.

Union Affiliation: American Federation of State County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME)
Pay Grade 15: $27.00 – $30.60 Hourly

Essential Job Functions

  • Schedule and maintain social media calendars for both @ChurchStreetMarketplace and @LoveBurlington, ensuring the brands are upheld and with a goal on increasing digital engagement
  • Create unique social media content with the goal of broadening customer reach and supporting small and locally-owned businesses
  • Manage communication with public via social media including responding to comments and direct messages when appropriate
  • Source photography of business community for digital channels through UGC and original content creation
  • Conduct research for, and write online blogs for loveburlington.org and churchstmarketplace.com
  • Manage and maintain the online event calendars for Love Burlington and Church Street Marketplace, including reviewing incoming events and increasing public engagement with the calendars
  • Manage the distribution of print marketing material and signage to business community
  • Assist Marketing Manager in outreach to potential customers on the Marketplace’s branding and marketing opportunities primarily the banner program
  • Regularly brainstorm with Marketing Manager new and innovative marketing tactics
  • Assist in the production and execution of events as needed, this may include some weekend hours
  • Create surveys and collect data related to tourism, customer flows and business trends
  • Attend Church Street Marketplace Commission meetings and present as needed
  • Report to Director with Marketing Manager on website and social media traffic and trends
  • Other duties as assigned related to the Business and Workforce Development teams mission to support businesses, partners, and stakeholders.

Qualifications/Basic Job Requirements

  • Ability to actively support City diversity, equity, and cultural competency efforts within stated job responsibilities and work effectively across diverse cultures and constituencies.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion as evidenced by ongoing trainings and professional development.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Communications or related degree.
  • 2 years of marketing/communications experience.
  • Demonstrated commitment to place making and community and economic development.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Office word and excel.
  • Experience with Canvas or Adobe Illustrator preferred.
  • Experience managing a social media account for a public brand (club, program, business etc.)
  • Strong sense of visual design.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to take initiative.
