This recruitment will generate a 6-month eligible list to fill current and future vacancies for the part-time Library Assistant I substitute positions at Montgomery County Public Libraries (MCPL).

Library hours of operation are Sunday through Saturday including nights. Substitute positions are assigned as needed to any of the 21 branch libraries in MCPL. Hours of substitute may not to exceed 39 hours in a week. Employee must be able to work at a minimum of 8 branches.

All candidates hired from this recruitment will be hired at the substitute hourly rate of $22.42 . The salary range provided below is for information purposes only.

General Position Summary :

Library Assistant I substitutes are responsible for checking library books and materials in and out using the automated circulation system providing information to customers regarding library services, policies, and procedures and, collecting and recording fees when necessary. Duties also include updating customer files registering borrowers for library accounts shelving books and other materials emptying the book drop demonstrating the use of library technologies to customers and answering telephones and directing calls.

Candidates selected for this position must be able to attend 20 hours of paid orientation and on-the-job training upon hire. Bilingual applicants are encouraged to apply.

Minimum Qualifications
:

Education : Graduation from high school or High School Certificate of completion recognized by the State of Maryland.

Experience : No previous experience required.

Equivalency : An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

Physical Abilities : Ability to perform light physical effort, such as keyboarding, standing, or staying in place for long periods of time and lifting, carrying and/or moving library materials weighing 20 pounds, regularly, and up to 50 pounds, as required.
