Public Information Specialist II
The City of Lincoln Transportation and Utilities (LTU) department Public Information Specialist II is a key member of the LTU Communications and Public Affairs division. This position assists in enhancing public engagement and communication for the Transportation Project Delivery division. This important role offers a variety of opportunities to showcase a person’s ability to plan public engagement events in a fast-paced environment, connect with and engage the community through face-to-face meetings, email, phone calls, mailings, and develop educational and marketing materials that will assist in educating the Lincoln community of important municipal infrastructure projects across the city.

Under the direction of the Public Information Officer (PIO) and general supervision of the Project Delivery Manager, the individual will be responsible for collaborating with communication specialists, website designer, project engineers, project managers, and outside consultants to develop strategic public engagement guidance plans and documents for various types of projects such as street improvements, watermain replacements, and sidewalk improvement projects.

A day in the life of this position includes collaborating with key project members to engage, inform, and assist the public during design and construction phases.

The Project Delivery team will teach this individual about engineering and construction techniques and terminology to help provide a solid foundation for all forms of written and verbal communication.

Candidates selected for an interview will be asked to prepare a 5-8 minute, sit down presentation of significant work, events or projects they played a key role in delivering.

Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in broadcasting, journalism, communications, marketing, business or public administration emphasizing public relations, public affairs and public information work or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the desirable knowledge, abilities and skills.

  • A valid drivers license is preferred as this position will be transporting materials to events.

To be eligible for insurance benefits, employees must work at least 30 hours per week.

To be eligible for the retirement plan, employees must work at least 20 hours per week.

Temporary, seasonal, and unclassified employees are not eligible for benefits.
