The ideal candidate for this position will have a background working in child and youth programs. In this role, they will oversee and coordinate various operations, services, and activities for the City of Renos youth programs. They will implement program goals and objectives, oversee assigned part-time and seasonal staff, and perform a variety of administrative tasks in support of the City of Renos youth programs.

We currently have one vacancy in the Parks &amp Recreation Department in which hiring will begin immediately following the close of this recruitment. This recruitment will also establish a list for future vacancies, which will be filled as they occur.

Examples of Essential Functions

  • Oversee and coordinate various operations, services, and activities of an assigned recreation program including either aquatics, indoor centers, child and youth programs, adult and youth league sports or special City events.
  • Recommend and assist in the implementation of goals and objectives establish schedules and methods for providing assigned recreation program services implement policies and procedures.
  • Monitor program performance recommend and implement modifications to systems and procedures.
  • Coordinate and promote assigned recreational programs and activities participate in recruiting, selecting, training, motivating, and evaluating assigned part-time, contractual, and volunteer employees provide staff training work with employees to correct deficiencies evaluate assigned staff initiate disciplinary procedures as appropriate.
  • Ensure proper operation and maintenance of assigned facilities.
  • Schedule maintenance for assigned areas including cleaning, sweeping and vacuuming maintain records and develop reports concerning recreation activities.
  • Monitor activities for assigned recreation program ensure adherence to safe work practices and procedures.
  • Collect and account for program fees and registration maintain appropriate financial records and prepare state and federally mandated reports.
  • Coordinate and supervise special events contact local corporations to sponsor and/or participate compile and distribute statistics of special events.
  • Assist in the coordination and promotion of City sponsored events hire and supervise food and beverage vendors, craft vendors and entertainment.
  • Develop and maintain a handbook on special event permit processes and procedures respond to regarding permit processes hold special meetings to review permits evaluate and revise policies.
  • Promote and coordinate specific activities within the assigned recreation program prepare program event and facility marketing material including news releases, flyers, schedules of events, pamphlets and brochures.
  • Oversee and schedule usage of assigned facilities including halls, recreation centers, community centers, swimming pool, City parks and sports fields provide information and assistance to users of facilities explaining policies, rules and regulations of facility use monitor and inspect assigned facilities after use schedule maintenance and secure facilities.
  • Maintain records and develop reports concerning new or ongoing programs and program effectiveness prepare statistical reports as required.
  • Participate in the preparation and administration of assigned budget submit budget recommendations monitor expenditures.
  • Respond to requests and inquiries from the general public provide information regarding assigned recreational program area.
  • Perform related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

The following minimum qualifications are required to be met at the time of application.

Combinations of relevant work experience and education that are equivalent to the following are acceptable.*

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent supplemented by college level course work in recreation, leisure services, public administration, business administration, or a related field.
Work Experience:
  • Three years of increasingly responsible experience supporting the activities and operations of a recreation program including one year of administrative responsibility.
  • Every two years (60 semester/90 quarter hours) of college level course work in recreation, leisure services, public administration, business administration, or a related field will su bstitute for one year of the required relevant work experience up to a maximum of two years.

Note: It is not required, but suggested that qualified applicants have at least one year of experience as a lead worker or supervisor within youth services program.

License:
  • Valid drivers license.

Examination Process:
Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications and pass the examination for this position to be eligible for hire. The examination will consist of online assessments which include an Employee Personality Profile and Emotional Intelligence Assessment for informational purposes only along with a Training and Experience evaluation (T&ampE) weighted as follows:


  • Training &amp Experience Evaluation (T&ampE) = 100%

  • Emotional Intelligence Assessment = Informational purposes only
Online Assessment Details:
Qualified applicants will be invited to participate in the online assessments once the recruitment has closed. These tests will be self-administered with no proctor, which means candidates will be able to complete them online at their convenience during the designated testing window.

Training and Experience Evaluation (T&ampE) Details
The T&ampE examination consists of a Supplemental Questionnaire. The questions may be viewed online under the tab marked QUESTIONS on the job announcement page. The T&ampE must be submitted online at the time of application.

Appointment and Certification:
Appointments to positions in the Citys Civil Service system are made on the basis of examination. Scores resulting from a competitive examination are used in determining a persons rank on an eligible register. The department may hire any of the persons referred. The names of those persons not hired may be considered when the next vacancy occurs, for as long as that register is viable.
