This position may be filled as a:

  • Probational Appointment
  • Promotion (open to all statewide classified and agency wide permanent status employees)
Current permanent status classified state employees may be required to accept a Probational appointment if selected.

The positions will be located in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

A criminal background check will be required of all selected applicants.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is responsible for managing and protecting the state’s renewable natural resources, including all wildlife and aquatic life.

LDWF supports a strong work ethic in its employees and incorporates the use of good science, accurate information and technology. The Office of Fisheries exists to provide wise stewardship of Louisiana’s wildlife and associated habitats and increase wildlife conservation awareness. This position is in the Office of Fisheries Outreach and Education section at LDWFs Nature and Science Center at Port Wonder in Lake Charles. This position performs work necessary to provide basic daily animal care, husbandry practices such as life support and water quality maintenance and assistance with outreach and education activities conducted at the center.

The Wildlife and Fisheries Technician position participates in a Career Progression Group (CPG) and is advertised to be filled as a Wildlife and Fisheries Technician A, B, or C. Assists biologists and technicians of a higher level in various natural resource management or research activities, including use, maintenance and calibration of scientific and technical equipment.

Assists in habitat enhancement and management.

Helps maintain buildings, public ramps, grounds, roads, vehicles, boundary markers, equipment, lake management structures and other equipment.

Operates high-pressure spray pumps, outboard motors, air boats, mud boats, vehicles, tractors, and other Department equipment.
