Duties

This position serves as a Supervisory Legal Administrative Specialist responsible for providing management, technical and analytical work to the Litigation Support staff in the Criminal Division of the United States Attorneys Office for the District of Vermont.

Typical work assignments will include the following:
Maintains current case assignments for all criminal division legal support staff for the office to ensure efficient and effective work distribution.
Plans criminal division legal support staff assignments in consultation with supervisory AUSAs.
Serves as the Rating Official for Legal Administrative Specialists and Legal Assistants in the criminal division.
Provides orientation for new criminal division legal support staff and conducts on-the-job training.
Assists and/or trains legal support staff in organizing voluminous case information for efficient retrieval through automated means such as scanning, indexing and controlling of documents into a database.
Performs a variety of litigation support tasks necessary to process complex and/or voluminous electronically stored information.
Maintains evidence such as paper documents, PDF files, image files, audio files, video, files, bank records, forensic reports, and other file types. Provides automated litigation assistance to attorneys in trial preparation and courtroom presentations.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Qualifications
Specialized experience: GS-11: To be eligible at the GS-11 level, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in federal service.

Specialized Experience: is defined as experience assisting attorneys and legal support personnel with court rules, regulations and procedures, analyzing and evaluating legal decisions and case files to identify relevant issues and potential evidence recommending automated support methods for trials customizing databases and programs for user needs assisting with trial preparation and presentations, and assisting attorneys with automatic evidence presentation in court preparing motions, orders, pleadings, subpoenas and legal briefs, summaries of analyses and decisions, and pre-trial documents.

Education: One of the following types of education in a related field (e.g. Criminal Justice, Law, Information Technology): Ph.D., or equivalent doctoral degree OR 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.M., if related. Education must be in an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position.

Combining Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements for the grade levels specified in the table, and may be computed by first determining the applicants total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level then determining the applicants education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level and then adding the two percentages. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for that grade level.

Education

Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the above education requirements if you can show that the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States.
