STATEMENT OF DUTIES

General Statement Of Duties:
Supervises case processing, technical and/or administrative staff in a Judicial District.

Distinguishing Factors:
Positions in the Supervisor I classification are distinguished from lower level classifications by time spent on supervisory responsibilities of 3 or more full-time equivalent subordinates. Incumbents in this classification must spend 50% or more time on supervisory responsibilities. The average district ratio of case processing and or technical staff to supervisor should be 10 to 1. Supervisory activities are defined as: establishes expectations, checks work product, provides training, conducts performance evaluations, coaches and guides staff, participates in the hiring and termination of staff.

This position will supervise Court Judicial Assistants who primarily process mental health and probate case types. This position will also train staff and will be responsible for maintaining local instruction manuals. There is also the possibility of participating on various statewide committees and meetings.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

To be established at the local district.

Examples of work:

Supervises staff by guiding, coaching, mentoring, establishing expectations, checking work product, assists in hiring and disciplining staff, assists in developing policy and procedures, schedules staff, monitors and approves leave, and ensures subordinates have the tools necessary to perform the job.

May require occasional travel.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS CONT.

Supervisor Responsibilities:
Directly supervises 3 or more full-time employees in a unit. Supervisory decisions are made in accordance with the Judicial Departments policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees planning, assigning, and directing work appraising performance rewarding and disciplining employees addressing complaints and resolving problems, and will consume 50% or more of the incumbent’s time.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education:
Graduation from high school or equivalent and four years of legal, court or other related administrative experience and completion of Judicial Executive Leadership Program, Path to Supervision or other equivalent Colorado Judicial Department supervisory coursework.

OR

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in business, public, or court administration or related area and two years of legal, court or supervisory experience required.

Upon hire and as a condition of continued employment, employees must complete all mandatory supervisor training as outlined in Chief Justice Directive 08-06 within two years of employment.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk. The employee frequently is required to stand sit reach with hands and arms and perform repetitive motions with wrists, hands, and fingers stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.


Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and high precarious places. Occasionally handles emergency or crisis situations frequently subject to interruptions, and multiple calls and inquiries. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
