Job Description : Job Summary

The Self-pay Follow-up Representative (Patient Biller 3) is responsible for reconciling self-pay and bad debt accounts. Duties include reviewing, auditing, and adjusting patient balances in EPIC billing system. Responds to patients, clinics, attorneys, collection agencies and other outside entities verbally and in writing to resolve billing inquiries. Provides back-up support to the department receptionist.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Previous billing experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Collections practices, internal procedures, and external regulations
  • Demonstrated knowledge of medical and insurance terminology and reimbursement requirements including government programs, contracted private and third-party program
  • Demonstrated knowledge of basic accounting practices sufficient to perform complete audit of accounts with multiple payers
    Skilled in written and verbal communications, with the ability to serve as a resource, to convey information in a clear and concise manner
    Strong critical thinking skills, with the ability to analyze and evaluate moderately complex problems, determine appropriate level of intervention, and develop and apply solutions
    Demonstrated knowledge of basic accounting practices sufficient to perform complete audit of accounts with multiple payers
    Ability to react with flexibility, patience and maintain efficiency while achieving accuracy under pressure to meet deadlines set by the department
    Demonstrated knowledge of medical and insurance terminology and reimbursement requirements including government programs, contracted private and third-party program
    Analytical skills to assess account balances and determine appropriate action
  • Computer proficiency in all relevant hardware, software, and specialty information systems used throughout the department
    Ability to comply with strict confidentiality standards

  • EPIC billing Systems experience
