Please note: This is a part-time position.

The researcher is part of the Department of Special Education at Vanderbilt University and is an individual responsible for assisting with conducting research and disseminating findings. This position includes recruiting participants, collecting data, analyzing data, and disseminating findings to different audiences. Reporting directly to the Principal Investigator (Dr. Burke), the researcher will work with the research team by attending weekly meetings and other meetings, as needed.

The researcher will help recruit participants for a national study about students with disabilities and their families. The researcher will collect survey and interview data from students with disabilities and their families. The researcher will work with the team to code and analyze the data as well as to identify patterns in the themes in the data. The researcher will assist with writing manuscripts and creating resources based on the findings.

About the Work Unit

The Special Education Department is a collaborative work environment. The specific project team values unique perspectives and lived experiences with one another. The team converses regularly to discuss the project.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Send recruitment information to relevant stakeholders including (but not limited to) calling and/or emailing organizations
  • Conduct individual interviews with participants to understand their experiences with Section 504 of the American Rehabilitation Act
  • Analyze interview and survey data with the team of researchers to identify barriers and facilitators to accessing Section 504 among students with disabilities and their families
  • Write and disseminate products based on the findings from the data such that relevant constituencies (e.g., teachers, families, students) can access information about Section 504

Supervisory Relationships

This position researcher does not have supervisory responsibility. This position reports administratively and functionally to the Principal Investigator, Dr. Burke.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma is required
  • Bachelors degree preferred
