John Chavis Memorial Park is a destination park located within downtown Raleigh. In addition to a large community center with a gymnasium, several meeting and gathering spaces, a walking track, and fitness room, the park offers a playground, spray ground, walking trail, outdoor restrooms, and a carousel.

The custodial position would support the community center and the park in providing exceptional experiences by maintaining the cleanliness of these spaces. This is a permanent, part-time position that works approximately 25 hours per week/1300 hours per calendar year. Hours for this position will be a combination of weekday evenings and weekends during the day. The position will contribute 6% to the Local Government Employee Retirement System (LGERS) and be eligible for participation in 401k/457 plans.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform cleaning and custodial duties in the community center and other buildings on the campus. This includes but is not limited to mopping, vacuuming, dusting, sweeping, cleaning restrooms, and emptying trash
  • Assist in maintaining the cleanliness of the outdoor space
  • Set up as needed for programs and events
  • The position requires the ability to meet the physical demands of maintaining the buildings and grounds and will require the ability to work both indoors and outdoors

Typical Qualifications

Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or GED required and 1 year or more of experience in custodial work

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.

ADA and Other Requirements:
Positions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Heavy Work:
Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Working Conditions:
Work is performed in both the field and in an indoor office environment with moderate exposure to atmospheric conditions (such as fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, etc.) moderate exposure to environmental conditions (such as disruptive people, imminent danger, or a threatening environment) and frequent exposure to intense noise.
