The role: Bring your public relations experience and join our talented communications team as a public information officer! In this role, you will support internal and external communication efforts, oversee major public affairs initiatives and act as our primary strategic communications liaison to state, federal and local agencies for the Driver &amp Motor Vehicle Services (DMV). A day in the life:
  • Develop communications designed to achieve specific public affairs and agency goals and promote awareness and acceptance of agency programs among employees and external interested parties.
  • Work with agency staff and managers, graphic artists, photographers, videographers and the media.
  • Produce or help oversee the production of key messages, talking points, news releases, presentations, webinars, videos, newsletters, fact sheets, podcasts, blog posts and other forms of communications.
  • Develop, implement and lead strategic communications and public affairs plans and programs.
  • Influence policy development and its implementation strategy.
  • Advise and guide agency management and staff regarding agency issues and presentations to news media, the transportation commission, advisory committees, other agency commissions and elected officials.
  • Act as an agency spokesperson to regional, statewide and national media.
  • Proactively suggest news ideas and stories to media contacts.
  • Assist with regional communications issues as well as other programs.
  • Work in an office environment with hybrid work options available and required travel, sometimes working in inclement weather and handling assignments in the evenings and early mornings.

Minimum qualifications: Eight years of experience directly related to the position under recruitment five of the eight years must have been at the professional level. OR A bachelors degree in business or public administration, public relations, marketing, journalism, the behavioral or social sciences or related degree, and five years professional level experience in public relations or affairs. Special qualifications: Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record.   • Effective verbal and written communications (including storytelling).
  • Knowledge of how news media works.
  • Demonstrated ability to use a variety of communications tools.
  • Knowledge of strategic communications and effective communications planning.
  • Knowledge of principles of public relations.
