GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Are you looking for a change of pace or a new opportunity to expand your professional experience? The Wyoming Attorney Generals Office is seeking highly motivated, organized, professional applicants for an investigator in the Consumer Protection and Antitrust Division.

The investigator position monitors Wyomings marketplace for patterns or practices of unlawful trade practices and anticompetitive conduct. This position closely examines potential violations of consumer protection and antitrust laws, builds complex consumer protection and antitrust cases, and supports consumer protection and antitrust enforcement actions in state and federal court. In addition, this position will perform investigative work related to the Master Settlement Agreement with Tobacco manufacturers. This position involves testifying in civil actions in state and federal courts, collecting, analyzing, managing investigative materials, analyzing and processing consumer protection complaints, identifying violations of consumer protection and antitrust laws, coordinating with local, state, and federal law enforcement partners, communicating with and educating consumers, reviewing complex corporate documents and financial records, conferring with consumer protection and antitrust attorneys, and providing general support to the Consumer Protection Unit as assigned.

  • Review reports, and evaluate evidence and consumer complaints.
  • Write investigative reports and conclusions.
  • Gather evidence and build consumer protection and antitrust cases.
  • Testify at hearings, assist in trial preparation, and arrange service of subpoenas and other legal papers.
  • Conduct training for field staff or the public related to fraud awareness.
  • Maintain accurate and complete files.

Qualifications



PREFERENCES/**AGENCY REQUIREMENTS

Preference may be given to applicants who are already familiar with consumer protection and antitrust laws and some of the unique challenges that arise when investigating unfair, deceptive, and anti-competitive trade practices. However, anyone interested in these areas is encouraged to apply. We will provide the successful applicant with training and mentorship to ensure that you have the resources and knowledge needed to succeed.

**Valid Drivers License

KNOWLEDGE:


  • Knowledge of research and data-gathering techniques.
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws and procedures specific to receiving, storing, and disseminating information.
  • Interviewing principles.
  • Concepts and current practices of civil and criminal jurisprudence.
  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles and financial records.
  • Knowledge of common business organizations and business records.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:
Bachelors Degree (typically in Criminal Justice) Experience: 0-3 years of progressive work experience in Investigation
OR
Education &amp Experience Substitution: 4-6 years of progressive work experience in Investigation
