Summary

Michigan Medicine Neurosurgery ambulatory care clinic is committed to providing high-quality specialty health care services for adults. We are seeking a compassionate, organized, and motivated individual to join our clerical team. The patient services associate is an integral team member in Neurosurgery providing support for patients, families, staff, and visitors to our clinic.

Responsibilities*

  • Provide exceptional customer service to patients and families
  • Provide check-in and check-out support for the Taubman Neurosurgery ambulatory care clinic
  • Schedule follow-up patient appointments
  • Working with call center and providers to schedule patients in appropriate schedules
  • Confirm, notify and remind patients of appointments and/or changes.
  • Calling and rescheduling patients due to provider clinic closures.
  • Scan and upload medical documentation and diagnostic imaging
  • Prepare and distribute daily appointment schedules to the electronic medical record
  • Monitor and send mail. faxes and other paperwork
  • Completing insurance verification and collecting cash/credit card payments from patients.
  • Communicate, troubleshoot, and escalate concerns and issues

Required Qualifications*

  • HS diploma or GED
  • medical office experience
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Excellent Attendance.
  • Flexibility and seeking constructive approaches to resolving workplace issues.
  • Willingness to learn new ways to accomplish work.
  • Accomplishes work in ways that maximize productivity and available resources while minimizing waste.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to work within a team setting.
  • Demonstrates active listening, written, verbal, and information technology skills.

Associate:

  • 2-3 years of experience

Assistant:

  • 0-2 years of experience

Desired Qualifications*

  • Organized, a self-starter, and motivated with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of MiChart and ability to efficiently navigate the electronic medical record system.
  • Able to identify the best available appointment type to meet the patient, clinic, and provider needs/requirements.
  • Knowledge of Michigan Medicine Policies and Procedures.
  • Recent experience in an Outpatient Clinic and able to identify red call and yellow card situations and respond appropriately.
  • Relates work and job purpose to Michigan Medicines mission and commitment to putting patients and families first.
  • Experience working within a large, complex healthcare setting.

This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
