Job Summary UK HealthCare EmPATH (Emergency Psychiatric Assessment, Treatment, & Healing) Psychiatric Unit is a 12-bed open milieu providing specialized emergency/crisis care to behavioral health patients 18 years and older. This service will assist in decompressing the emergency departments and improving the quality and trauma-informed nature of crisis care at UK Healthcare. Behavioral health needs may include mental illness and substance use disorders, with a goal of quickly stabilizing the crisis and returning patients back to community supports with reduction in hospital use. This is an evidence-based model and the first EmPATH unit in Kentucky.
The Patient Access Representative is responsible for providing: patient arrivals, patient registration, resolution of patient complaints, collection and verification of demographic information, insurance/payer source information, correction of registration errors, collection of patient-responsibility payments at the time of service (copays, co-insurance, self-pay estimates), maintain HIPAA compliant and comply with all UKHC policies regarding patient privacy and confidentiality, participate in unit and Enterprise activities to improve efficiency, quality, safety, and patient satisfaction.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities The ideal candidate will be customer service oriented possess patient registration and health insurance knowledge have the ability to multi-task with a strong emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail be proficient in Microsoft Office, to include Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel have excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) have solid time management, critical thinking, follow-through, and planning and organizational skills and have a high level of respect for confidentiality.
Does this position have supervisory responsibilities? No
Preferred Education/Experience Associate degree and at least four years of healthcare customer service experience preferred previous experience working with patient registration highly preferred.
