THE POSITION

THE POSITION

The Department of Public Works, Parking Services Division, is seeking a Parking Meter Coin Collector to collect revenues from parking meters and parking payment kiosks owned and managed by the City of Sacramento. The Parking Meter Coin Collector will be a team player and able to perform meter collection duties including pushing/pulling a coin collection cart, operate coin collection equipment, drive a City truck, perform extensive walking for the duration of a work shift, and collect revenue from parking meters on the street and in parking facilities. This position requires the physical ability to regularly manage up to 50lbs of equipment at a time. This position is full-time and will require reporting to work on weekends, holidays, and evening shifts, at times in inclement weather conditions.

The ideal candidate will have reliable attendance, conduct themselves in a professional manner as a representative of the City of Sacramento and be attentive to technical detail to ensure the security of parking meter revenue.

DEFINITION

To remove coins from municipal parking meters using City-owned equipment, and to transport collected monies to prescribed locations, following proper security procedures.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

General supervision is provided by the Parking Meter Repair Supervisor.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Depending upon assignment, duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Collect and transport monies from City parking meters, following an assigned route.
  • Deposit coins collected in a prescribed bank or other secure location.
  • Perform minor or routine maintenance and repair on meters in the field as necessary.
  • Maintain proper records on defective meters and damaged equipment.
  • Respond to public inquiries in a courteous, tactful manner.
  • Perform surveys for map and record updates on the locations of parking meters.
  • Assist in the cleaning and replacement of meters as required.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

Safe work practices.

Ability to:

  • Perform assigned duties on foot, sometimes in inclement weather conditions.
  • Learn streets and meter locations within the City.
  • Understand and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Respond tactfully and courteously to public inquiries and complaints.
  • Operate collection and parking meter equipment with some mechanical dexterity.
  • Keep and maintain routine records, logs, and reports.
  • Perform assigned duties with a significant degree of independence.

Experience and Education:

Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be some experience in a public setting involving the handling of cash.

PROOF OF EDUCATION

Should education be used to qualify for this position, then proof of education such as, but not limited to, university/college transcripts and degrees should be submitted with your application and will be required at the time of appointment . Unofficial documents and/or copies are acceptable.

An applicant with a college degree obtained outside the United States must have education records evaluated by a credentials evaluation service. Evaluation of education records will be due at time of appointment.

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Driver License:

Possession of a valid California Class C Driver License at the time of appointment. Loss of the Class C License is cause for discipline. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to physical disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

2. Training and Experience Exam
: (Weighted 100%) – The questions located at the end of the application are the Training and Experience (T&ampE) Exam. Responses to the T&ampE questions will be rated and scored. This exam will evaluate the relevance, level, and progression of a candidates education, training and experience. The exam score will determine your ranking on the eligible list for this job. When completing the T&ampE questions, please note:

  • Responses to the T&ampE questions must be submitted online paper questionnaires will not be accepted.
  • A resume will not substitute for the information required in the T&ampE questions.

Eligibility : Candidates who pass the Training and Experience Test will be placed on the eligible list. The hiring department may contact candidates for interview at any time during the life of the one-year list. Candidate’s eligibility expires one year from the date of notification of a passing score for the Parking Meter Coin Collector examination.

Screening Committee : (Pass/Fail)– All candidates that pass the examination and are in one of the top three ranks will have their application forwarded to the hiring department for review. The hiring department will select the most competitive applications for further consideration. Human Resources will only evaluate employment applications for the minimum qualifications, as stated on the job announcement, for applications selected by the hiring department.

Conditional Hire: Upon receipt of a conditional offer, the selected candidate must complete and pass Live Scan/fingerprinting. If applicable, candidates may also need to pass a pre-employment medical exam, controlled substance and/or alcohol test, and possess any required licensure or certification prior to receiving a start date from the Department. Failure to meet these prerequisites will be grounds for withdrawal of your conditional offer of employment.
