Nature of Work
Parks/Chief Logan State Park/Logan County Under general supervision of the Park Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, and Lodge General Manager, and at the full performance level, this employee researches, plans and conducts educational, information, recreational, and special programs at Chief Logan State Park and Chief Logan State Park Lodge and Conference Center. Will plan, prepare, and research material in order to conduct recreational programs to engage and educate both day and overnight guests of the park and lodge. Plans guided nature walks and special activities to showcase the Logan region, including the country’s rich coal heritage, the Hatfield and McCoy legacy as well as the agency’s new Elk Program. Will be on site during busy check-in days at the lodge lobby while guests are coming to check in their rooms. Coordinates and/or leads park visitors and overnight guests in seasonal activities such as hikes, elk tours, campfires, wildlife viewing, and bird watching. Coordinates children’s programs to provide education and information on natural resources. Will design and coordinate winter-time indoor and/or evening activities such as movies, dances, and nature programs at the lodge, and will assist the lodge General Manager in scheduling special events and live entertainment. Works with Lodge General Manager, Group Services and restaurant to create special events/packages to promote the park and overnight accommodations. Oversees the parks wildlife exhibit and performs related animal care duties such as required by their supervisor. Regular attendance is required. Minimum Qualifications
Training: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major or minor in botany, zoology, geology, natural history, recreation, park management, forestry, conservation, or natural science.
Substitution: Experience as described below may substitute for the required training on a year-for-year basis.Experience: One year of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in one of the fields listed above. Substitution: Graduate work in the fields of botany, zoology, geology, natural history, recreation, park management, forestry, conservation or other related field may be substituted for the experience.
