Under the general direction of the Elevator District Office Senior Safety Engineer (Elevators), the Office Technician (Typing) will perform a variety of administrative functions for the Elevator Unit District Office, with the Division of Occupational Safety and Health .

Working Conditions

This position is located at:

Division of Occupational Safety and Health – Elevator District Office – Oakland

1515 Clay Street, Suite 407B, Oakland, CA 94612

The incumbent works in an air conditioned office building with natural and artificial lighting and temperature control. In addition, the incumbent works in a cubicle in close proximity to others in a typical office setting. Typical work requires use of the computer and telephone for extended periods of time and interaction with co-workers.

Department Information

The Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) was established in 1927. DIR administers and enforces laws governing wages, workplace safety and health, apprenticeship training programs, and medical care and other benefits for injured workers.

Special Requirements

Typing Certificate: Type at a speed of no less than 40 words per minute from ordinary manuscript or printed or typewritten material.
The position requires the ability to type at a minimum speed as designated on the Class Specifications for Office Technician-Typing. You must obtain a valid typing certificate confirming your ability to meet the minimum typing speed, prior to being hired. Additional information regarding acceptable typing tests is available at the CalCareers.ca.gov website.
