SUMMARY:

JUVENILE PROBATION AND PAROLE OFFICER I

To perform entry level field work by providing support and being responsible for the supervision of offending juveniles. Under supervisory oversight prepares investigations reports and recommendations to the court and/or Juvenile Parole Board in matters of parole or administrative furlough as required. Upholds the vision and mission of the agency through utilizing the Practice Model theories, beliefs and principles in daily practice.

JUVENILE PROBATION AND PAROLE OFFICER II

To conduct investigations and makes recommendations as directed by the court and Juvenile Parole Board and to supervise juveniles placed on conditional release or parole. Upholds the vision and mission of the agency through utilizing the Practice Model theories, beliefs and principles in daily practice.

JUVENILE PROBATION AND PAROLE OFFICER III

To serve as officers of the court regarding juveniles placed on conditional release or parole, investigating and reporting recommendations to the court as required. Upholds the vision and mission of the agency through utilizing the Practice Model theories, beliefs and principles in daily practice.

JUVENILE PROBATION AND PAROLE OFFICER IV

To serve as officers of the court regarding juveniles placed on conditional release or parole, investigating and reporting recommendations to the court as required. To provide leadership in the juvenile probation and parole program and to directly supervise staff as assigned. Upholds the vision and mission of the agency through utilizing the Practice Model theories, beliefs and principles in daily practice.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

JUVENILE PROBATION AND PAROLE OFFICER I

Under supervisory oversight attends court hearings, and prepare written reports for the courts for use at disposition and review hearings. Make sentencing and restitution recommendations to the Court.

Supervise pre-adjudicated and adjudicated Delinquents and CHINS as ordered by the court minors on administrative release or on parole and minors from other states under the interstate compact on juveniles.

Monitor the parent(s) compliance with court orders and ensure that appropriate school districts are joined as parties.

Promptly report to the court, violations of court orders and conditions that are required by statute or the court or which are serious enough to warrant consideration by the court attend court hearings on violations and provide information to the court as to the basis for the violation along with recommendations for appropriate action.

Develop parole supervision plans with recommendations on the conditions and terms of parole for presentation to and approval by the Juvenile Parole Board.

Monitor and review cases to ensure that Solution Based community supervision and placement case plans are developed with the youth and the family to ensure that objectives and tasks are being achieved and that court orders are being complied with in accordance with State and Federal Statute.

Under supervisory direction has the authority to arrest and takes into custody any juvenile who is found violating any law, or who is reasonably believed to be a fugitive from justice, or whose circumstances are such as to endanger his/her person or welfare, unless immediate action is taken.

Completes all required documentation, including case plans, court reports and all necessary Bridges documentation of case related activities.

Works under direct supervision of a supervisor and receives regularly scheduled weekly supervision.

Completes Core Training requirements, including mentoring with a field training officer, according to policy.

Independently attends court hearings, conduct pre-dispositional investigations for adjudicated youth and prepare written reports for the courts for use at disposition and review hearings. Make sentencing and restitution recommendations to the Court.

Supervise pre-adjudicated and adjudicated Delinquents and CHINS as ordered by the court minors on administrative release or on parole and minors from other states under the interstate compact on juveniles.

Monitor the parent(s) compliance with court orders and ensure that appropriate school districts are joined as parties.

Completes annual training requirements, including certification as a Solution Based Casework Caseworker and completes individual training plan according to policy.

Supervises subordinate JPPOs as assigned by the DJJS District Office Senior Supervisor.

Participates in community based or statewide committees to establish effective working relationships with adolescents, families, court officials, law enforcement agencies, service providers and the general public.

Represents and/or advocates the promotion of positive youth development and restorative justice for youth on local and statewide committees to enhance the provision of Juvenile Justice services to youth and families.

Completes annual training requirements, including certification as a Solution Based Casework Caseworker and / or Coach and completes individual training plan according to policy.

JUVENILE PROBATION AND PAROLE OFFICER I

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, criminology, behavioral science, counseling, cultural anthropology, education, human services, psychology, social work, sociology, or a related field.

Experience: No experience required.

OR

Education: Bachelor’s degree in any field with at least twelve (12) courses or thirty-six (36) credit hours in one or more of the following educational fields: criminal justice, criminology, behavioral science, counseling, cultural anthropology, education, human services, psychology, social work, sociology, or a related field.

Experience: No experience required.

License/Certification: Valid driver’s license and/or access to transportation for statewide travel.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must demonstrate successful completion of the CORE Academy during the first twelve months of employment.

Upon completion of the CORE Academy, must attend 30 hours of in service training annually. In addition, must successfully complete the formal mentoring program

Must receive satisfactory performance evaluation and performance recommendations from the supervisor and the Juvenile Justice Services Field Administrator.

Must be available for non-traditional work hours to meet the needs of youth and families.

OR

Education: Bachelor’s degree in any field with at least twelve (12) courses or thirty six (36) credit hours in one or more of the following educational fields: criminal justice, criminology, behavioral science, counseling, cultural anthropology, education, human services, psychology, social work, sociology, or a related field.

Experience: Three years’ experience in the field of juvenile justice, or social services experience relating to juveniles in the criminal justice field, or experience associated with juvenile or adult parole or probation activities or substance abuse prevention.
