Position Summary

The Graphic Designer is responsible for artwork, graphic design, desktop publishing, and related areas in support of a consistent visual brand for the college.

Salary: Appropriate placement on ACCS Salary Schedule E2, Grade 3: $44,333 – $61,480

Work Hours: Monday through Thursday, 7:45 a.m. – 5:15 p.m. Friday 7:45 a.m. – 11:45 a.m.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design publications and other printed materials.
  • Interpret written and verbal instructions into visual form create artwork and improve provided art prepare thumbnail sketches and arrange graphic elements.
  • Create special effects through uses of paper, inks and methods.
  • Photograph and/or select photographs for artwork.
  • Design and produce oversized graphics and signage, billboards, flyers, booklets and programs, brochures, business cards and letterheads, event invitations, print ads and web banners, vehicle wraps, and other collateral and specialty projects as assigned.
  • Work directly with printers and other marketing vendors.
  • Assist the Webmaster in the approval process for the College’s website Content Management System (CMS).
  • Design personalized proposals and presentations, upon request.
  • Perform all duties with professionalism.
  • Update and enforce brand guidelines.
  • Assist with advertising and marketing for The Alabama Center for the Arts and the Goal Adult Education program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of an Associates degree in Graphic Design from an accredited institution is required OR a minimum of 16 semester hours in graphic design from an accredited institution and three years graphic design work experience is required .
  • A comprehensive, professional portfolio showcasing work and demonstrating graphic skills for is required for all applicants selected for an interview.

Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate through their experiences and accomplishments

  • Extensive knowledge of graphic design concepts and the skill to implement them.
  • Effective oral and written communications skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple assignments in a calm and professional manner.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Extensive knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, InDesign) and Microsoft Word software packages.
  • Knowledge of different file formats and resolutions to be used for specific purposes (printing and digital).
  • Extensive knowledge of printing and other reproduction.
  • Knowledge of copyright laws.
  • Familiarity with iOS platform/Apple products, perform periodic system backups, and troubleshoot system problems.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to type accurately.
  • Ability to prepare detailed printing specifications for commercial printers.
  • Ability to create original designs using physical and digital media, graphics tablets, in conjunction with photography and stock elements.
  • Ability to follow through and complete assignments in a timely manner.
  • Initiative- responding to downtime by taking responsibility to do other work.

  • Willingness and desire to learn new things and apply that learning.
