Faculty Assistant I – Arts and Sciences

This position serves in a support role for faculty teaching courses in the department. This position assists the instructor in the classroom and must be available to students of the assigned course as a teaching assistant (i.e., Assistant in Instruction).Job Description
This position requires a one-time attendance to the summer course, Psych 565 Practicum in Teaching Psychology.
This position requires a one-time attendance to the summer teaching assistant orientation hosted by the the Teaching Center.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Attend All Course Lectures:
- Read the textbook to familiarize oneself with course material.
- Read course-related articles, books, electronic, and web materials.
- Take notes for personal use.
- Take attendance as needed.
- Meet with instructor as needed.
- Manage computer systems in class as needed.
- Manage room settings (e.g., lighting, blinds).
- Assist with course materials and tests.
- Explore other classroom opportunities.
Grading and Record Keeping:
- Provide detailed writing feedback for undergraduate work (e.g., research papers).
- Grade quizzes, tests and exams as requested, by hand or scantron.
- Produce detailed item analyses.
- Maintain student grades and post grades in eGrades.
- Assist, upon request, entering final grades for other courses that only have undergraduate AIs.
- Initiate and follow up with exams taken at the Teaching Center.
- Handle minor grading disputes.
Office Hours, Review Sessions, Labs:
- Maintain regular office hours to review exams and course content with students.
- Hold labs, if applicable.
- Schedule and hold tutorials, review sessions or alternate testing sessions as determined in consultation with instructor.
Administrative:
- Make audio visual instructive materials as needed.
- Make and distribute handouts as needed.
- Manage equipment and resources (e.g., books, videos from library).
- Liaison with the Disability Resource Center/Teaching Center.
- Manage/assist the instructor with managing the course website.
- Maintain syllabi database.
Perform other duties and training opportunities as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in psychology or related field with significant relevant coursework or experience.
- SPSS and/or R statistical software experience in a university environment, some teaching experience (e.g., teaching assistant-level), and some advising experience.
- Familiar with MS Office, especially Excel.
- Excellent communication and writing skills.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize.
- Ability to work independently and strong attention to detail.
- Ability to understand the instructor’s priorities and manage accordingly.
- Ability to make routine decisions following university and department policy and procedures (non-routine decisions are to be discussed with the Instructor).
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in related field.

G07-HSalary Range
$18.91 – $29.32 / Hourly The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including ones qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.Questions
