Role Summary

The Drug Abatement Representative is responsible for performing drug test collections and alcohol testing 24/7/365 based on the selected employee’s work schedule. As a member of the drug abatement team, you will sign up for and complete tests of employees based on when they are working at your geographic location. You will determine when and how often you work, but are responsible for working with the local collection team to ensure all tests assigned to your geographic are completed in the designated time frame. Hours and availability needs are based on how many tests are needing to be completed and can range from over 40 hours/week to less than 5.

Key Duties

  • Administers drug test and alcohol collections in accordance with federal regulations, state laws and the Alaska Airlines Drug and Alcohol Policy.
  • Follows established procedures, with additional discretion, to make determinations with regards to:
  • Enforces direct-observation specimen collections to include finding alternative support for the direct observation should the situation requires.
  • Determines when to declare a “refusal to test” based on regulatory parameters and reports occurrences to the Designated Employer Representative.
  • Schedules tests of various workgroups’ complex work hours of varied employee groups and expected workload in assisting with scheduling of own work hours to meet business needs and established deadlines while ensuring the most efficient use of company resources.
  • Documents and processes expenses incurred while completing work in an efficient and accurate manner.
  • Guides frontline leaders in drug and alcohol testing scenarios (e.g., post-accident, reasonable suspicion/cause determination and documentation, etc.), and interpretation of federal regulations and company policies.
  • Secures and maintains testing supplies and orders supplies as necessary.
  • Provides expert testimony to any Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), state investigations, and labor hearings when required.
  • Travels for business, including day, nights, weekend, holidays and occasional overnight stays.
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned, or as the situation dictates.

Job-Specific Experience, Education &amp Skills

Required

  • 2 years of experience in a service-oriented role, or related experience.
  • Lives within 25 miles (or a reasonable distance) of the designated airport location to support various and/or multiple testing needs in a day as determined by the operation.
  • Drug and/or alcohol specimen collection experience and/or medical experience.
  • Flexible availability and willingness to work varied hours from week to week including early mornings, late evenings, weekend, holidays, and potentially overnight stays.
  • Demonstrated ability to deescalate tense situations and maintain calm and composure when difficult scenarios arise.
  • Excellent communication (e.g., verbal, written, and listening) and interpersonal skills.
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized, with ability to multi-task and work independently with limited guidance in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and maintain confidential data.
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • An enthusiastic and energetic attitude, highly efficient, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to engage in required physical effort by handling objects up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 40 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to engage in frequent extensive physical movement, including walking long distances, standing long periods of time, and stairs.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum age of 18.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred

  • Trained and certified to perform DOT drug test collections and alcohol testing Knowledge, 49 CFR Part 40, 14 CFR Part 120 and Urine Specimen Collection Guidelines.
  • Certified Breath Alcohol Technician (BAT).
  • Knowledge of airline operations across all divisions, including employee positions.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Outlook email, Teams, Word, and Excel), Smartsheet, and has an aptitude for learning and using operational applications (eg. JCTE, FOGS, PeopleSoft, AIMS, Image/Sabre, RealTime Gates).
  • Ability to conduct training and facilitate presentations.

Salary Range

$47,900 – $67,100 / year

Salary Details

Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees. Alaska/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.
