Director, Corporate Affairs Storytelling

About the role

Location: The location for this position will be based out of East Hanover, NJ and will follow a hybrid working model.

As the function’s lead writer of story-driven content and a leading architect of the companys most visible story-driven communications, the Director, Storytelling will help craft communications that elevate the company’s storytelling capabilities and humanizes internal and external communications.

Major accountabilities:

  • Spearhead the creation and development of captivating and emotionally resonant narratives that transcend traditional corporate communications, harnessing the power of storytelling to authentically connect with audiences and humanize the company.
  • Serve as the primary writer and/or editor for high-profile communications and/or communications elements across Corporate Affairs, including articles, speeches, narratives, mass emails, social media posts, quotes, video scripts, and more.
  • Lead visionary storytelling projects and campaigns that use a multimedia approach to reach diverse, global audiences, collaborating with teams internally and handling external agencies and creatives to bring creative concepts to life through video, photography, and more.
  • Identify and amplify the voices and stories of employees, patients, community members, and more to enable authentic storytelling, using interviews and immersive storytelling techniques to shine a spotlight on the human stories that define our companys culture and impact. Community manage and ensure ongoing engagement with those whose trust and partner with us to share their story.
  • Forge collaborative partnerships across departments and disciplines, orchestrating seamless integration of storytelling approaches and elements into internal and external communications, events, social media, and more.
  • Collaborate as an integral part of a community of creatives across Novartis and the Corporate Affairs function, helping foster a culture of collaboration, ideation, and collective storytelling excellence.
  • Support integration of AI-driven techniques and solutions to optimize text creation and further enhance the role’s impacts across the function. As well as, measure and analyze the performance of content, leveraging data and insights to optimize storytelling strategies and drive engagement and brand affinity.


This opportunity is located at the Novartis East Hanover (NJ) site and will not have the ability to be located remotely. Relocation assistance may be available.

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $166,400 and $249,600 per year however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/24 through 12/31/24, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period. Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.

Role Requirements

What you will bring to the role:

  • High academic achievements Bachelor’s degree required
  • Fluent English and masterful command of the English language required, other languages beneficial.
  • Creative writing: 5+ years of professional experience writing creative and compelling stories to express or humanize complex ideas or concepts for diverse, global audiences (those with writing experience outside the pharmaceuticals industry are encouraged to apply).
  • Editing: Expert proficiency in grammar, with a healthy obsession for grammar rules. Has proven experience editing content for the economy of words to express complex ideas concisely without decreasing the quality of writing and creative or the effectiveness of text.
  • Multimedia storytelling: Proven ability in professional settings collaborating with creatives to translate written stories into other mediums, such as video and photography.
  • Strategic Thinking and Problem-Solving: Ability to think strategically, identify opportunities, and solve complex problems.
  • Adaptability and Creativity: Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities, emerging trends, and evolving landscapes, combined with creativity to innovate and experiment with new content formats and engagement strategies.
  • Tech Savvy and Continuous Learning: Comfort with technology, willingness to learn new tools and techniques, and a proactive approach to staying updated on industry trends, platform updates, and best practices in marketing.
