Summary

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:
The Facilities Department provides facility management, building and grounds maintenance, and custodial services for County-owned facilities and grounds. In support of County departments and offices that provide direct services to the community, Facilities Department teams work from a central warehouse in Bend managing and maintaining facilities across Deschutes County at sites in La Pine, Sisters, Redmond, and Bend.

ABOUT THE JOB:
This position is responsible for maintaining attractive, sanitary, and safe facilities for Deschutes County staff and the public by performing janitorial and custodial duties. Duties include routine cleaning, trash disposal, restroom sanitation and replenishing restroom supplies cleaning, waxing, and polishing floors vacuuming and spot cleaning carpets cleaning windows, walls, blinds, and woodwork checking facilities and ground for unsafe conditions which includes reporting hazards and dangerous areas.

Work schedule is Monday through Friday 4:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform custodial and janitorial duties, including routine cleaning, trash disposal, and restroom sanitation in County Facilities.
  • Follow safety rules and County procedures to minimize risk of accidents and liability exposure check facilities and grounds for unsafe conditions.
  • Report safety conditions, security issues, and illegal activities report problems and emergency situations.

Knowledge of or experience with:
  • Custodial services and building maintenance.
  • Demonstrate courteous behavior when interacting with visitors and County staff.
  • Knowledge of County policies and procedures, safety rules and regulations, occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • Promote County goals and priorities, and comply with all policies and procedures.
Skill in:
  • Operating and maintaining tools and equipment in a safe and effective manner.
  • Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co-workers.
  • Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.

Compensation

$3,454.45 to $4,629.30 per month for a 172.67 hour work month. Excellent County benefit package when eligible. This union-represented position is available immediately.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • AND some work experience in building maintenance
  • OR any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills and knowledge to perform the job.

Necessary Special Requirements

Driving is a requirement for this position. Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Oregon drivers license within 30 days of hire date. The employment offer will be contingent upon presentation of an acceptable and verifiable drivers license, pre-employment screening for criminal history, driving history, and controlled substances (NOTE: Positive test results for marijuana use may result in rescission of a contingent offer of employment). This screening must be completed with satisfactory findings in order for a formal offer of employment to be extended.

Must be willing and able to drive throughout Deschutes County in sometimes adverse weather conditions.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/ PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Work is performed in County facilities requires moderate physical efforts may be exposed to safety hazards and dangerous tools and equipment.
