JOB DUTIES:

As a Claims Examiner, you will:

  • Assist the public in the claim process.
  • Explain the rights and responsibilities of Unemployment Insurance eligibility.
  • Gather facts necessary for processing claims to ensure accuracy, efficiency and compliance with Unemployment Insurance laws, rules and policies.
  • Provide guidance and mentoring to new staff.
  • Provide support and complex information to claimants, co-workers, employers, other government agencies and interested parties.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITES:

If you are the right person for this opportunity, you will have the following knowledge, skills or abilities:

Knowledge of (or ability to learn in a reasonable amount of time):

  • Effective verbal and written communication compassionately and firmly when serving challenging customers.
  • Operation of a personal computer including researching database systems such as Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word.
  • Office practices and procedures, business English, grammar, mathematics and information gathering techniques.

Skill in:

  • Offering exceptional customer service.
  • Navigating multiple computer programs to accomplish work tasks, especially the skill of keyboarding quickly and accurately.
  • Time management, processing and prioritizing a heavy workload with multiple deadlines.

Ability to:

  • Identify complexity level of a claim according to established facts.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Learn and apply policies, procedures and explain the claims process.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Your preparation for this opportunity could include a combination of relevant experiences including:

  • Related education or experience equivalent to three years.
  • Directly related education includes post-secondary coursework in business, office administration or a related field.
  • Relevant experience includes customer service, general office practices, research, and using databases and other software applications to accomplish work.

OR

  • Any combination of equivalent experience and education to successfully perform the essential functions of the position will be considered.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS

This position requires extensive detailed deskwork while on the phone with customers for a large part of the day. Requires sitting for extended periods of time and operating a keyboard and computer screens with accuracy and detail. Travel may be required.
