Job Description : We currently have an opportunity for Claims Consultant to join our Entertainment Claims team in our Plymouth, MN New York City, NY Denver, CO office or remotely nationwide. The Consultant is primarily responsible for handling and resolving complex and specialized Media Liability claims as well as related from inception through resolution. The responsibilities for this role include analyzing coverage, developing strategies and projecting exposures for Entertainment and Media claims of varying complexities, as well as interacting with the Entertainment underwriting and support team.

Responsibilities:
  • Makes timely and appropriate contacts, determines and completes appropriate level of investigation to make determination of coverage, assess liability and determine damages. Determines coverage, prepares coverage correspondence on appropriate claims, responds to coverage questions raised by insureds and others.
  • Determines exposure, establishes adequate reserves and makes timely adjustments as required.
  • Selects, assigns and directs activities of internal and external resources as required, including both defense and coverage counsel, experts, independent adjusters, and appraisers, as needed. Identifies questionable claims and consults with SIU as appropriate.
  • Determines settlement value of the loss and negotiates proper settlement of claims within authority. Provides recommendations for settlement and disposition of claims exceeding authority and, after consultation, negotiates resolution of claims beyond authority.
  • Identifies matters that need the attention of Claims leadership and/or legal because they present large exposure, the potential for extra-contractual exposure, or other concerns warranting elevation.
  • Documents clearly and concisely all relevant activity on assigned files and makes recommendations for additional activity as appropriate.
  • Communicates as needed with underwriting and other internal business partners regarding claims trends and legal climate. Provides expertise and insight as requested relative to needed coverage changes or enhancements. Performs research and analysis with regard to claims issues that implicate particular business lines or segments.
  • Maintains a strong professional knowledge of regulatory and legal environments and applies this information effectively.
  • In addition to Media Liability claims, internal candidates will be expected to take additional claims from Entertainment, from their prior pending, or from other areas of the Claims Department to fill out a complete claim pending load.
Requirements:
  • Must possess high level skills and extensive claims technical knowledge including products and industry. Legal background is strongly preferred for specialty commercial insurance products.
  • Must have superior analytical, negotiation, decision making, problem solving, organizational and presentation skills.
  • Must be a proven self-starter with excellent multi-tasking and relationship management skills.
  • Must be able to communicate professionally and effectively including expert oral, written and listening skills.
  • Must be able to work both independently and as a member of a team and have the ability to interact with diverse groups of individuals.
  • Must maintain a high level of accuracy, and provide follow-through on projects.
  • Requires the ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with computer software including Microsoft Office suite and other Claims tracking tools.
  • Must maintain strong professional knowledge of industry trends, legislative issues and the marketplace for specialty insurance.
  • Must be able to act as coach and mentor junior members of the department, as needed.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree required, Juris Doctorate preferred
  • 3-7 years handling claims for an insurance carrier preferably including Media Liability and Entertainment claims.
  • Some travel required.

Our salary ranges are determined by many factors including location, role, experience and skillset of the candidate. The following ranges displayed reflect the target base salary for new hires but your recruiter will share more specific compensation information with you during the hiring process. The typical base salary range for this position is: $116,000 – $153,000, based on the factors aforementioned. For candidates located in San Francisco, CA Hoboken, NJ and the New York City metro area, the base salary range is $134,000 -$158,000. In addition to base salary, full time Intact employees are also eligible for bonus potential and a full range of benefits to include: 401(k) savings and annual contributions of up to 12% of annual salary, competitive paid time off programs, medical, vision and dental plans, mental health support programs, life and disability insurance, paid parental leave and a variety of voluntary benefits.
