Job Description :

Responsible for handling Central Scheduling based calls and coordinating the scheduling of appointments for outpatient procedures for participating departments by physicians, physician office staff, patients and other customers.

Responsibilities

• Staff Central Scheduling telephone lines. • Field telephone calls, answer questions and obtain information concerning the scheduling of outpatient procedures and schedule appointments in a professional, efficient manner. • Obtain pertinent and necessary clinical history prior to scheduling exam and document this information appropriately within the Central • Scheduling software package. • Maintain medical terminology skills necessary for capturing clinical history. • Identify areas, within the scope of Central Scheduling participating departments, where potential inefficiencies in utilization may occur. • Data entry of scheduling related information using Central Scheduling specific software. • Initiate follow-up (i.e. schedules) to customers including physicians, physician office staff, patients and participating departments. Provide instructions concerning patient preparation. • Utilize multiple computerized databases and systems for scheduling of patients. • Promote Central Scheduling by participating in health promotion seminars, conferences and/or community outreach activities. • Maintain contact with all CAMC departments and affiliates participating in the centralized scheduling initiative. • Maintain accurate, legible, up-to-date records. • Keep work area and supply area organized. • May be required to conduct inventory of supplies and equipment to ensure that necessary items are available or have been ordered and received. • Utilize cost effective measures. • Prepare schedules for all outpatient procedures associated with participating departments.

Knowledge, Skills &amp Abilities

Patient Group Knowledge (Only applies to positions with direct patient contact) The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment or care as defined by the department’s identified patient ages. Specifically the employee must be able to demonstrate competency in: 1) ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs 2) knowledge of growth and development and 3) understanding of the range of treatment needed by the patients. Competency Statement Must demonstrate competency through an initial orientation and ongoing competency validation to independently perform tasks and additional duties as specified in the job description and the unit/department specific competency checklist. Perform work in alignment with the overall mission and strategic plan of the organization. 8. Follow organizational and departmental policies and procedures, as applicable. 9. Perform related duties as assigned.

Education

• High School Diploma or GED (Required) Education: Formalized Training in Medical Terminology. Experience: 2 years in health care or related field. Substitution: 1 year current continuous employment using/working knowledge, may substitute for proof of formal training in medical terminology and 2 years related experience.
