Job Description :

The Buyer position is responsible for purchasing materials, supplies, equipment, and services for the various business units throughout the organization while ensuring the best value is met with regard to quality, price, delivery of commodities and services purchased. The Buyer negotiates pricing with suppliers and vendors, researches alternative suppliers, manages multiple vendors and supply sources to ensure inventory accuracy to allow successful production to achieve customer demand. This position also collaborates with multiple departments and levels of the organization to ensure all supply needs are met

Essential Job Functions

  • Maintain and update policies and procedures associated with supply management and the procurement of commodities and services.
  • Review MRP system messages and take procurement action as needed.
  • Place and administer purchase orders with approved supplier base in support of production requirements and needs.
  • Process ETO requisitions for procurement.
  • Negotiate best value prices with suppliers and ensure that product delivery meets required production needs.
  • Review opportunities for new supply sources and suitability of materials offered.
  • Recommend volume and commodity purchases based upon pricing trends, market conditions, etc.
  • Establish and maintain multiple sources of supply for various products.
  • Complete minimum of two Supplier Audit Questionnaires O-1823 annually.
  • Review terms and conditions and collaborate with the Risk Manager and/or purchasing under our standard terms and conditions.
  • Collaborate with others regarding commodity or spot buy price negotiations as needed.
  • Collaborate with Engineering to resolve issues associated with incomplete or incorrect part descriptions.
  • Collaborate with Project Management regarding sales order delivery requirements.
  • Collaborate with Quality and Accounting to disposition material non-compliance and supplier invoices.
  • Collaborate with Sales and Estimating to provide pricing resources as needed.
  • Review open order reports for delivery confirmation and expediting needs.
  • Maintain records of items purchased, costs, delivery, product quality and performance.
  • Track supplier quality and delivery performance and review and/or issue Supplier Corrective Action Requests as necessary.
  • Maintain awareness of commodity lead times, supplier capacities, product offerings and raw material pricing trends.
  • Review and process claims against suppliers for unsatisfactory materials or equipment.
  • Assist purchasing agents with training on supply chain methodologies, skills, and tools as required.
  • Process material returns as needed.
  • Regular in-person attendance required.
  • Ensures lessons learned applied to future efforts.
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities (Competencies)

  • JDE experience preferred.
  • Vendor negotiation for best price and value of product.
  • Working knowledge of MRP, lean flow manufacturing and JIT principles preferred.
  • Ability to take initiative to develop new strategies and outside-the-box ideas.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team.
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with individuals at all levels.
  • Ability to efficiently utilize Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings and technical specifications.
  • Excellent communication skills both orally and written.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Manage and prioritize multiple tasks with keen attention to detail.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science in Industrial Management, Supply Chain Management, or Business/Finance
  • Five or more years’ experience in Supply Management preferred.

Base Compensation Range: $48,670 – $73,006 annually

Variable Compensation Range: Incentive bonus eligibility up to 10% of gross annual salary based on company performance (as of 2024).

Working Conditions

Professional office environment with some time spent in a manufacturing shop environment. Use of standard office equipment (computers, phones, copiers, and filing cabinets, etc.). Frequent presence on the manufacturing floor as well as field operations. Exposure to conditions, such as: dust, fumes, noise and high-degree varying seasonal temperatures.
