Job Description : The Athletics Communications Specialist will be responsible for the internal and external promotion of UNE’s varsity, club and intramural sports programs as a collaborative team member of the Athletics Communications staff.

This position is expected to demonstrate commitment to actively fostering a welcoming culture of inclusion and diversity, be an engaged member of the university community, show creativity, initiative, and willingness to participate within the department and the profession and both on and off campus, participate in department promotions and publicity events, and attend department and campus functions as requested, to serve as supervisor at home contests and support home game operations as necessary, and other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics or the Associate Director of Athletics for Communications and Operations.

Responsibilities
  • Provide game day and sport coverage as directed by the Associate Director of Athletics for Communications and Operations and in collaboration with the Sports Information Director, which includes set up/break down, staff and student worker supervision, live statistics, scoreboard, music, live video streaming, game stories, and social media.
  • Create and implement an innovative digital strategy for program promotion that aligns with current trends and best practices.
  • Establish and maintain a comprehensive and timely presence on the Internet, including social media and live event streaming.
  • Ensure that information related to the University’s intercollegiate athletics programs is available to the public in a timely and effective manner.
  • Assist with the development and implementation a comprehensive public relations program to help achieve the goals of the University by building and maintaining positive relationships with key constituencies (alumni, donors, friends, current student-athletes, prospective student-athletes, members of the campus community, and the public at-large).
  • Ensure that individual and team statistical data for University teams and its opponents are gathered and disseminated through regular sports information channels by developing, organizing, and managing a program for staffing athletics events with sports information personnel at competitive events hosted by the University.
  • Promote a positive image of the University by responding to inquiries and requests for materials from individuals and organizations, formulating replies or providing materials appropriate and consistent with University policies.
  • Help manage the daily operations of the Athletics Communications Office thru effective teamwork to achieve optimal outcomes and innovative promotion.
  • Promote a positive image of the University through participation in community and professional organizations, representing the University at professional meetings and on community committees, and establishing and maintaining credible relations with various news media and other collegiate sports information offices.
  • Generate and manage game contracts for all home, away, and neutral site competitions.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required and/or related educational and/or work experience
  • Demonstrated skills related to digital media techniques, production, and strategy
  • Must be willing to work extensive nights and weekends
  • Previous experience in related field
  • Excellent written communication
  • This is an in-person position
