The State of New Hampshire, Department of Administrative Services, Divion of Plant &amp Property has a full-time vacancy for an Assistant Superintendent of Grounds.

Summary: To monitor work assignments performed in the operation and maintenance of a working unit.

18 Months of additional relevant experience = Associates degree

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Associate’s degree from a recognized college or technical school with a major study in horticulture or floriculture. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.

Experience: Three years’ experience in a grounds department of a large estate or institution, one year of which shall have involved supervision over a grounds or greenhouse staff. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

License/Certification: Must possess a valid driver’s license. May be required to obtain a supervisory Commercial Pesticide Applicator License from the New Hampshire Department of Agriculture.

Responsibilities:

  • Develops comprehensive program for seasonal maintenance and long term projects for building and grounds workers to ensure that seasonal jobs and projects and conducted and to allow for proper response to emergency or special buildings and grounds needs.
  • Arranges and schedules with Corrections personnel for the utilization of inmates for buildings and grounds assigned work to minimize cost and completion of work in an acceptable timeframe.
  • Contacts various state agencies regarding job requests and develops a plan of action to insure the timely and efficient completion of the tasks.
  • Contacts vendors regarding equipment and materials in order to prepare the necessary forms for purchasing to meet ongoing work requirements.
  • Verifies records of employees’ time, job, equipment, and materials that are utilized in various buildings and grounds projects to ensure their accuracy for development of necessary reports.
  • Supervises subordinates, recommends leaves, and takes corrective action as needed to ensure the proper completion of work in a safe and timely manner.
  • Reports status of facilities on a periodic basis to appropriate authorities to provide input into long and short term improvements and repairs necessary to provide superiors with necessary budget information and maintain buildings and grounds in proper operating condition.
