BackgroundUN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security. Placing women’s rights at the center of all its efforts, UN Women will lead and coordinate United Nations System efforts to ensure that commitments on gender equality and gender mainstreaming translate into action throughout the world. It will provide strong and coherent leadership in support of Member States’ priorities and efforts, building effective partnerships with civil society and other relevant actors.

The United Nations Trust Fund to End Violence against Women (UN Trust Fund) was established through the UN General Assembly Resolution 50/166 in 1996 with UN Women as its Administrator on behalf of the UN system. The UN Trust Fund is a global multi-lateral grant making mechanism supporting national efforts to prevent and end violence against women and girls, one of the most widespread human rights violations in the world. The UN Trust Fund provides technical assistance and funding to advance the development of innovative models and strategic interventions in the area of ending violence against women and girls. To date, the UN Trust Fund has awarded USD198 million to support 609 initiatives in 140 countries and territories.

Under the supervision of the UN Trust Fund Resource Mobilization and Advocacy Manager, in internal coordination with all members of the UN Trust Fund team, UN Women Strategic Partnerships and Communication Divisions at Headquarters, the Resource Mobilization and Advocacy Analyst will be responsible for supporting and coordinating UN Trust Fund’s global advocacy and fundraising work; and provide support to building partnerships.

Duties and Responsibilities

 

Provide technical support to build trust and maintain effective relationships with donors:

  • Provide technical support in the preparation of missions, meetings and other bilateral and multilateral consultations with donors, including the preparation of notes, briefs and other materials,
  • Act as a direct focal point for donors and contributors, maintaining, stewarding and building institutional relationships,
  • Provide regular updates on donor profiles, databases (e.g. contacts management) and donor intelligence,
  • Keep meticulous records of the meetings, exchanges and supporting documentation and keep all relevant donor management software up to date,
  • Provide due diligence for leads and potential partners.


Provide advocacy support to position UN Trust Fund as the unique global interagency Fund by highlighting its practices and results
:

  • Disseminate and share UN Trust Fund’s knowledge products and key advocacy messages with UN Trust Fund donors, civil society and members of the larger global community working to prevent and end violence against women and girls,
  • Build and maintain partnerships with donors, UN agencies, UN Trust Fund grantees and civil society and international and national groups leading to amplifying the UN Trust Fund advocacy and resource mobilization efforts and activities,
  • Draft inputs for speeches, talking points, official statements and other relevant materials as needed and requested,
  • Provide planning and coordination support to the organization of the UN Trust Fund’s public advocacy events, including during CSW, UNGA and 16 Day of Activism against GBV.


Provide technical support for content development and dissemination of the relevant advocacy materials of the UN Trust Fund

  • Provide technical inputs to the development content and dissemination of UN Trust Fund’s advocacy materials for print, web and social media channels,
  • Coordinate and draft letters, messages, documents,
  • Participate in and technically contribute to the development of content for the UN Trust Fund’s events and advocacy materials for relevant communications platforms, in coordination with the UN Trust Fund’s Communications Officer and the UN Women Communications Team,.

Coordinate monitoring and the implementation of UNiTE Campaign related activities implemented by the UN Trust Fund and support event organizations and management:

  • Ensure flow of information and regular dissemination across all relevant teams in UN Women, including internal communications channels.
  • Update and maintain engagement with UNiTE Campaign management team.
  • Provide coordination and technical support and contribution on behalf of the UN Trust Fund’s team to the preparation of the high-level events as relevant to the UNiTE Campaign and other events during the 16 Days of Activism etc.
  • Disseminate the UN Trust Fund’s and UNiTE key advocacy messages to UN Women and UN System wide focal points, networks and civil society partners clearly and effectively with a view of inspiring a concrete and measurable action.

Required Skills and Experience

Education and certification:

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in one or more of the following disciplines: International Development, Political Sciences, Public Administration, International Relations, social studies and other related fields.
  • A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Experience:

  • At least two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in the areas of advocacy campaign coordination and advocacy events planning aimed at fundraising.
  • Experience working with civil society organizations, international institutions and donors,
  • Experience in building and sustaining strong partnerships and strategic alliances with internal and external actors,
  • Experience in gender equality, womens empowerment and preventing and ending violence against women and girls is highly desirable,
  • Experience working in the UN system is an asset.

Language Requirements:

  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Knowledge of the other UN official working language is an asset.
