Job Description :
This job description may look long but if you really want to challenge yourself and your career, it’s worth it to you to read every last detail of this opportunity.
A unique, rare opportunity has opened to become President of the Florence Flamingos, a summer collegiate baseball team in the Coastal Plain League in Florence, SC.

The city of Florence is a fast-growing community about an hour from the Myrtle Beach area and 90 minutes from Columbia and two hours from Charlotte. The downtown is flourishing with new restaurants and social spots and the city is very active in pursuing new events for not only the Sports Complex but for the downtown area and the 7,000 seat arena. Total population in the city shows about 40,000 but the county is 150,000.

The President of the Flamingos would undoubtably be a big fish in a growing pond.
Our team president will have profit and loss responsibility and be the face of the team in the community. You’ll lead a staff of at least five full-timers including a B2B salesperson, group salesperson, inside sales/ticket operations staff member, Director of Marketing/Partnership Activation and Game Entertainment and Director of Operations/Food and Beverage. If there is an opportunity to grow revenue, we’re willing to add more staff to make that happen. Your primary job will be revenue – focusing on managing and growing ticket, sponsorship and special event revenue while overseeing all staff and the day to day business operations of the team.
Because we want you to focus on revenue and the growth of the organization, we’ve built a support staff around you. You’ll receive tremendous support from our sister team in Macon, GA – the Macon Bacon – who have an experienced staff to help guide email marketing, digital advertising, social and digital media strategy, branding and accounting/finance. You also don’t have to worry about bookkeeping, paperwork or back of the house details. We take care of that for you.

The base salary is in the $60-$75k range based on your experience. Florence is a pretty inexpensive place to live so that salary allows you to buy a house and take weekend trips to Myrtle Beach which is only an hour away. Your big upside is on a share of profitability. Since you manage the business, you get to drive revenue and control expenses. Done well, you could earn another $15-$35K in profit bonuses. We will also provide health insurance and develop a 401K plan.

If desired, there is also a path to an ownership stake of the franchise at a discount to franchise value.
The Flamingos are one of the fastest growing brands in all of sports. The team name and logo were launched at the end of the 2021 season and we are the only team in the country in any sport at any level with pink as our primary color, which has led to merchandise sales throughout the entire United States and all around the world. Within two weeks of launch, the team sold merchandise in all 50 states and 9 countries. Even today, nearly 90% of the team’s merchandise sales come from outside of the state of South Carolina.

The Coastal Plain League is made up of 14 teams in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia. The rosters are made up of mainly Division I and II college players looking to get drafted by Major League Baseball teams. Consider the CPL the same age/talent level as Single A baseball or Rookie League baseball. In its’ 28-year history, the league has had nearly 1500 players drafted and more than 100 make it to the Major Leagues including future Hall of Famers Justin Verlander and Russell Wilson (NFL) and other Major League stars like Kevin Youkilis and Ryan Zimmerman. We play 25 home games and 25 road games from Memorial Day to August 1. Even better, we rarely have back-to-back games and never have a homestand like in Minor League baseball.

The Flamingos, Bacon and Savannah Bananas are the top teams in the Coastal Plain League in attendance, game experience and brand visibility and we’ve built an internal rivalry amongst each other to continue to grow, develop and improve.
The Flamingos also opened a brand-new 1,500 seat stadium in May 2022, Carolina Bank Field which is the centerpiece of a brand-new sports complex in Florence, surrounded by five other baseball fields and a world class track facility. The team controls the facility 365 days of the year and works hand-in-hand with the city of Florence to bring concerts, baseball tournaments and special events to the stadium. You can check out the photos here.
The Flamingos were purchased in October, 2020 by 30+ year sports industry veteran Steve DeLay – author of The Ultimate Toolkit to Sell the Last Seat in the House and The Ultimate Toolkit, Sponsorships – and Brandon Raphael, who himself is also a 25 year veteran of the sports industry and President of our wildly popular sister team, the Macon Bacon in the CPL. DeLay is the Managing Partner, focused on the revenue side of the business while Raphael works hand-in-hand with the team President on all day-to-day business operations. They have more than 50 years of combined experience to help a team President continue the growth of the team and the brand.
In our first year at Carolina Bank Field, we’ll sell out 12 of our 25 home games. We’ve increased ticket revenue more than 10x since taking over the team and increased sellouts from 1 to 12 with room for more. There is plenty of room to grow in group ticket sales and premium sales.
Our corporate partnership strategy is focused on the idea of big impact and big WOW! As an example, our outfield wall signs are 80’ long and there are only six. We will have no more than 20-25 sponsors for the team with a major focus on business driving promotions, community engagement for partners and special events. In the first year of the new stadium, the team already has long-term sponsorship agreements for stadium naming rights, club naming rights, the Lagoon Beer Garden and the Party Perch as well as four Founding Partners.
We believe the Flamingos can sell out every game in the not too distant future, dramatically improve and build on the fan experience and game entertainment, continue to grow sponsorship revenue, create a merchandise selling machine and ramp up non-CPL events – all of which lead to a huge spike in business. We feel with the team’s unique logo, colors, stadium and fan focus, the Flamingos can match any team in the country for branding, visibility and financial success.
Our team president will be a senior leader of our company as we look for opportunities to grow our portfolio of businesses and opportunities in the sports industry.
We want someone focused on revenue. Have we made that clear? Revenue pays the bills. If you want to sit behind a desk and tell interns what to do and coast, this job isn’t for you.
Ticket Sales
First, we want someone who knows ticket sales, ideally The Ultimate Toolkit philosophy of ticket sales. You’ll lead the ticket sales efforts as our defacto Director of Ticket Sales – coaching, teaching and guiding the ticket sales staff and sales interns. You have to be willing to go on sales calls with the ticket sales staff and guide the ticket sales strategy with the help of our marketing team in Macon.
While many of our major deals are signed to multi-year deals, there is still room to grow sponsorships revenue and activation of our existing deals. You’ll be the sponsorship salesperson and work hand-in-hand with your Director of Marketing on activation. You have to be willing to get out on 5-7 sponsorship sales calls each week and close deals.
Business Oversight
You’ll have direct oversight of Operations, Food and Beverage, Game Entertainment, special events and the budget. You run the business with guidance, direction and support from ownership. This role requires attention to details and a never-ending desire to improve. What you don’t know, we’ll teach you and support you on so you constantly improve.
To apply, click on this link and submit your resume and a dazzling cover letter on why we should consider you. Steve and Brandon are easy to find on the internet so special attention will be paid to people who reach out directly to pursue the opportunity.
We are an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, age, disability, gender identity, marital or veteran status, or any other protected class.
