Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Four years of experience in historic site operation, outdoor recreation operation or administration, law enforcement, interpretive services, building construction or maintenance, mobile equipment operation, or as a parks building and grounds attendant.College training will substitute for the required experience on the basis of thirty semester hours for one year of experience.
NOTE: Any college hours or degree must be from an accredited college or university.

FUNCTION OF WORK: To manage the operation, interpretation, maintenance, and law enforcement activities at one or more state parks or historic sites.LEVEL OF WORK: Manager.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Broad from a Parks District Manager or other higher-level personnel. Alternative reporting relationships may be approved by SCS.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Direct over personnel assigned to a state park or historic site. Alternative reporting relationships may be approved by SCS.
LOCATION OF WORK: Department of Culture, Recreation, and Tourism – Office of State Parks. Other locations may be approved by SCS.
JOB DISTINCTIONS: Differs from Park Manager A by the presence of independent responsibility for all activities of a larger state park or historic site.
Differs from Park Manager C by the absence of independent responsibility for all activities of one of the largest state parks or historic sites.

EXAMPLES BELOW ARE A BRIEF SAMPLE OF COMMON DUTIES ASSOCIATED WITH THIS JOB TITLE. NOT ALL POSSIBLE TASKS ARE INCLUDED.Park Manager allocations will be based on established criteria including, but not limited to revenue, visitation, and staff.
Plans, organizes, directs, and controls site level work activities on a state park or historic site which includes administrative, maintenance, security, recreational, safety, interpretive, and custodial services.
Develops and monitors budget recommendations for personnel services, equipment, and materials.
Develops and monitors staff performance planning and review. Prepares purchase requests and makes needed purchases, maintains fiscal records, and maintains moveable property assets.
Prepares reports and correspondence.
Develops and monitors safety program.
Performs literary and field research on the culture, archaeology, history, flora, and fauna of the area develops and monitors the preservation of historic and/or natural resources
Establishes policies and procedures for park operations.
Coordinates work by scheduling assignments and directing the work of subordinate staff selects and trains staff.
Inspects buildings, grounds, and equipment to ensure that proper safety, security, and maintenance procedures and standards are being met.
Meets with officials of local governments, other state agencies, federal government agencies, civic organizations, law enforcement agencies and others to discuss operation agreements, follow-up on prosecutions, address citizen complaints, maintain regulatory requirements, perform public presentations, etc.
May serve as chief law enforcement officer and perform the functions of a peace officer as defined by the POST Council.
SPECIAL JOB DIMENSIONS: Frequent overtime, night and weekend work are required during peak seasons.
