Position Summary Information
Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The mission of the School of Social Work is to advance equity, transform systems, improve lives. The School’s curriculum supports the mission and recognizes the uniqueness of the region served, including concerns for disadvantaged, vulnerable, and oppressed individuals, families and communities. Classes provide rigorous and evidence-based content, and give students the opportunity to explore theory, learn intervention skills and engage in challenging dialogue with colleagues.

Position Summary
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station . If business needs change, an individual employee’s designation may be adjusted with a required minimum of ten (10) business days’ notice unless employee conduct or safety issues necessitate otherwise at the discretion of management.

Behavioral Health Springboard links current research to initiatives in mental health and substance use prevention and treatment. Drawing on both university resources and the clinical and administrative expertise of its staff, the Program offers curricula development, technical assistance, program consultation, and face-to-face and online educational programs. Behavioral Health Springboard’s training resources, products, and experienced staff help organizations design effective service delivery systems and assist with the transitions needed to implement evidenced based practices for improved client outcomes and systems efficiencies.

In partnership with local, state, and regional organizations, the Online Training Specialist is responsible for the development of effective online training content and curricula related to mental health and substance use disorder treatment systems. The Online Training Specialist will work directly with subject matter experts and sponsoring organizations including the UNC School of Social Work and the North Carolina Division of Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities and Substance Abuse to develop, shape, and deliver evidence-based trainings while facilitating efficient communication between internal and external stakeholders throughout all phases of content development and delivery.

The Online Training Specialist will provide recommendations on instructional design based on analysis of course learning objectives and desired training outcomes and will work with continuing education approval authorities to submit trainings for initial approvals and subsequent renewals according to published timelines. To ensure success, the Online Training Specialist should be innovative, organized, and self-motivated with a keen interest in Behavioral Health topics and a commitment to assist with the transitions needed to implement evidence-based practices for improved client outcomes and systems efficiencies.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
  • Associate’s degree in Computer Information Technology, Computer Technology Integration Networking Technology, or related areas and two years of experience in the Information Technology field related to the position’s role or a
  • Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of experience in the Information Technology Field related to the position’s role, or a
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Math or Engineering from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience in the Information Technology Field related to the position’s role or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Journey level requires an additional one year of experience.
  • Advanced level requires an additional two years of experience.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Familiarity with course development applications and learning management systems as well as the principles of instructional design.

Approachable, calm style encourages open communication across stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Working knowledge of Rise 360, Moodle, and Descript. Working knowledge of principles of instructional design for the adult learner. Demonstrated capability to work as an independent course developer managing the demands of multiple projects and creatively handling resource and time constraints. Working knowledge of behavioral health, maternal health, veteran’s behavioral health or substance use disorders.
