Online Graduate Writing Tutor

Academic Achievement Center Graduate Writing Tutors provide learning support to graduate students in online, one-hour sessions. Graduate Writing Tutors work remotely and meet with students in online Teams meetings.
Tutors engage students to improve writing strategies and foster a positive learning environment. Tutors might examine long written works (such as dissertations) to ensure correct citation and format, improve structure and expression, and streamline narrative flow. Tutors also might review personal statements, project proposals, or other shorter works. Tutors do not edit but guide students in successfully employing revision strategies.
Responsibilities: Complete the required 10 hours of paid training. Attend all scheduled tutoring appointments. Be punctual, begin all sessions promptly, use time for academic tasks, and focus on the student’s needs. Create a positive learning environment and encourage independent learning by helping students identify problem areas and giving them opportunities to practice and build knowledge. Maintain confidentiality as outlined in the FERPA compliance statement. Keep up-to-date with tutoring sessions using the TutorTrac scheduling software. Check email and Teams to remain informed of activity at the AAC. Submit accurate time sheets and enter hours in Workforce in a timely manner.
