Job Description
As the official state library of Oklahoma, the Oklahoma Department of Libraries (ODL) strives to ensure every Oklahoman has access to innovative, quality library and information resources and possesses the literacy skills needed to be successful in the global economy, to participate in democracy, and to accomplish individual life goals.
Located in the capitol complex at 200 NE 18th St in Oklahoma City, ODL serves the information and records management needs of state government, supports public library development, coordinates statewide information technology projects, and serves the public through its specialized research collections, including state and federal document depositories and the State Archives. ODL has a collection of nearly 700,000 volumes and an annual budget of approximately $8.7 million in the current fiscal year.
The Oklahoma Department of Libraries (ODL) is now accepting applications for the position of Public Information Officer II. Salary range is $30,593 to $52,000 depending on education and experience. Employees receive a full suite of benefits including health, dental, life and disability insurance 15 days of annual leave per year, increasing after five, ten and twenty years of employment 15 sick leave days per year 11 observed holidays and a lump sum longevity payment after 2 years of service that increases every two years.
Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Public Information Office Manager, the Multimedia Designer will design, edit, and publish printed and digital material promoting ODL. They will be responsible for collaborating with colleagues throughout ODL and the library field to help promote the mission and goals of the agency. Projects will consist of email marketing communication, graphic design for printed publications and digital platforms, photography, and videography. Work will include creating designs that align with agency branding and researching best practices for visual communication and creating effective imagery and style that engages the agency’s multiple audiences.
Job Duties:
- Establishes, develops and maintains contact with media, professional and civic organizations and other special interest groups to promote agency programs.
- Prepares, edits, coordinates and distributes news releases.
- Prepares speeches, agency newsletters, brochures, web pages, broadcast scripts and other agency informational releases coordinates major public relations or advertising campaigns for the agency.
- Develops special educational and promotional materials for presentation at exhibits, fairs, festivals, conferences and schools conducts tours of agency.
- Represents agency at civic and professional groups.
- Instructs, trains and may supervise the activities of others.
- Serves as photographer for agency.
- Serves as project leader for special PR projects of agency.
- Bachelors degree in journalism, communication, marketing, English or a related field plus one year of experience in writing and editing, radio and/or television, public relations or serving as a public information officer or an equivalent combination of education and experience and one year of experience in writing and editing, radio and/or television, public relations or serving as a public information officer.
- Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, visual communication, marketing or a similar field
- Three years of experience working as a graphic designer for a cultural institution within the arts or humanities
- Experience and knowledge of Adobe Create Cloud Apps, specifically InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Lightroom, and Premiere
- Ability to tailor design to intended audiences
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Ability to design engaging and informational materials
- Ability to coordinate and organize multiple projects
- Knowledge of visual communication best practices
- Knowledge of effective marketing strategies
- Knowledge of Chicago and AP writing styles
- Knowledge of emerging design trends
