And our Corporate Real Estate team is on the front lines of procuring, designing, and developing spaces at all our hubs, stations, and city locations across the world. From airport affairs and business services to planning and development, this team is responsible for all our leases and major construction and renovation projects, system wide.

The Corporate Real Estate team is composed of Planning and Development (formally called Design and Construction) and Airport Affairs. These two teams work together to secure lease spaces and lead all major construction and renovation projects at our hubs, stations, and city locations across the world.

Job overview and responsibilities

Advises the development and administration of strategies and processes to support lease and airport development negotiations from initial concept through implementation. Additionally, is responsible for the strategic hub development process and real estate optimization initiatives. Acts as a key collaborator to implement corporate initiatives affecting operational efficiencies, marketing improvements, and facility development. Budget responsibility for between $800M – $1B annually. Negotiation strategies and participates in all negotiations with airlines, airports, governments, A4A and other NGOs at larger more strategic hubs to achieve objectives. Must demonstrate leadership to team and industry to maintain credibility vital for success.

  • Advises the development and administration of processes to support key strategic airport related projects, including business case development, planning and negotiation. Actively provides support in exception management, conflict resolution and strategic alignment.
  • Provides leadership and mentoring to staff, leading the goal process, and translating the corporation’s targets into concrete, measurable and attainable objectives, and action plans. Is a role model for the team illustrating the level of dedication, ethics, energy, respect, and success required of all company employees? Recognizes and addresses issues both proactively and reactively, develops solutions, and drives consensus and internal communication.
  • Coordinates with strategic planning organizations and key stakeholders to ensure Real Estate efforts are consistent with corporate strategic planning initiatives. Independently identifies ways to develop corporate initiatives and actively promotes collaboration with peers and leadership.
  • Develops, recommends, and handles budgets and policies regarding real estate utilization. Takes actions to champion these policies and coordinates and acquires the support of relevant corporate organizations. Must demonstrate creative solutions and appropriate risk management to achieve corporate objectives.

  • Position is Hybrid in Chicago and requires 50% travel.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Finance, Real Estate, Construction Management or Business
  • 15+ years of related work experience
  • 10+ years of commercial real estate or contract negotiation experience
  • 8+ years’ experience leading a team
  • Airline and/or airport experience
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong presentation and analytical skills
  • Able to collaborate with and influence internal and external stakeholders
  • Conversant in engineering techniques, airport airfield designations, understand construction management process and vernacular, background in construction safety
  • Experience in writing and negotiating design and construction related contracts
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is a crucial function of the position
