Job Description : The Connecticut State Library (CSL), is now accepting applications for a Maintainer (Motor Equipment Services), within the Delivery Driver Division of Library Development, Van Block Sorting Facility, in Hartford, CT.
Within the State Library is the Division of Library Development, which is a library for librarians, helping those working in libraries across the state bring resources, programs, and services to their patrons. A key service we provide is deliverIT CT (formerly Connecticar or Ccar) which is Connecticuts statewide library delivery service. deliverIT CT transports about 1.5 million library items per year to 215 public and academic libraries in the state.

POSITION DETAILS:
  • Full time, 37.5 hours per week
  • Monday-Friday
  • Flexible shift between hours of 6:00 AM – 3:30 PM
  • Location: 75 Van Block Avenue, Hartford, CT
THE ROLE: The incumbent will serve as a Maintainer-Route Delivery Driver for the statewide deliverIT CT service. The incumbent in this position will report to the Supervisor of Transportation, Division of Library Development. This busy statewide operation requires working on your feet for most of a 7.5 hr. shift, servicing a pre-determined delivery route. Additional responsibilities include:
  • Sorting inbound and outgoing items to their proper destinations
  • Loading and sorting bins at a sorting facility, loading and unloading a ¾ ton van
  • Regular maintenance functions
  • Other duties as determined by the Supervisor of Transportation
ABOUT US: The Connecticut State Library is an Executive Branch agency of the State of Connecticut. The State Library provides a variety of library, information, archival, public records, museum, and administrative services for citizens of Connecticut, as well as for the employees and officials of all three branches of State government. The State Library also serves students, researchers, public libraries, and town governments throughout the state. In addition, the State Library directs a program of statewide library development and administers the Library Services and Technology Act state grant. PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In a state agency this class is accountable for performing basic tasks of an unskilled nature (e.g. requiring little prior experience or training most tasks can be learned quickly on the job) in one or several of the following areas:

  • Building and equipment maintenance (operational and remedial)
  • Grounds care
  • Food services
  • Operation of trucks of less than five (5) ton capacity
  • Parking garage.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with commercial route delivery
  • Experience lifting items up to 45 lbs for the duration of a 7.5 hour shift
  • Experience navigating statewide routes as a delivery driver using GPS
  • Customer service experience

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Incumbents in this class may be required by the appointing authority to possess and retain appropriate current licenses, permits and/or certifications.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Incumbents in this class must have adequate physical strength, stamina, physical agility, visual and auditory acuity, and must maintain such physical fitness as to be able to perform the duties of the class.
  • A physical examination may be required.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Incumbents in this class may be required to lift moderate to heavy weights and may be exposed to extreme weather conditions and risk of injury from equipment and assaultive and/or abusive patients and/or clients.
  • Incumbents in this class may be required to complete an asbestos removal program consistent with EPA guidelines for operations and maintenance during employment in this class. Incumbents may be required to use protective equipment such as respirators and safety goggles.
