IRVM TECHNICIAN I
Description
Under general supervision of the Roadside Biologist and Road Superintendent assists with the Integrated Roadside Vegetation Management related work to control noxious weeds and promote desirable vegetation, performs heavy manual labor drives truck and operates other equipment to maintain County roads.
Essential Duties
- Must be capable of regular and predictable attendance at a specified location in order to perform assigned tasks.
- Assists in roadside vegetation tasks such as control of invasive weeds, brush, and trees through mechanical and/or chemical methods, including herbicide spraying, mowing, cutting and prescribed burning.
- Plants seeds to promote healthy re-growth and establishment of native plant communities.
- Assists with erosion control, including installation of erosion control blankets, waddles, and other products.
- Assists with accurate records of treated locations.
- Operates County equipment as necessary including hand and power tools.
- Drives farm-type tractor with mower attachment to cut grass and weeds.
- Performs snow removal and a variety of manual labor.
- Follows proper safety procedures and takes pro-active measures to avoid potential harm to equipment and personnel.
- Performs routine inspections of equipment to ensure safety and operability.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Must be willing to comply with Secondary Roads residency policy within six months of hire date: live within Black Hawk County or within a 20-mile radius of the Longfellow Shop located at 1329 Longfellow Ave, Waterloo.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
- Six (6) months or more related experience and/or training required.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Must possess or attain a CDL within six (6) months, and maintain a valid Iowa Commercial Drivers License (CDL) Type A and be insurable under the Countys guidelines.
- Must have valid Iowa CDL Type A – Tanker Endorsement or able to obtain the endorsement within six (6) months from date of hire.
- Must have a valid State of Iowa Commercial Pesticide Applicators license – Categories 1A – Agricultural Weed Control, 3OT – Ornamental and Turf Pest Control, 5 – Aquatic Pest Control, 6 – Right of Way Pest Control or the ability to obtain the license within sone year from the date of hire.
- Must have a valid certification or completion of training in National Wildfire Coordinating Group S-130 and S-190 or the ability to complete the training within one year from date of hire.
- The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
