_ Statement of _ Under the general supervision of the Industrial Pretreatment Coordinator and Superintendent, with

Duties considerable latitude for independent judgment and conduct of work will be responsible in providing technical support to the Industrial Pretreatment Program and to provide technical support to the Plant Operations
Division. Duties will include performing inspections of industrial and commercial facilities to ensure compliance with wastewater discharge permits and pretreatment requirements; preparing inspection reports to include all required inspection related documentation (i.e. sample results, inspection findings, pretreatment equipment evaluations, record storage, chemical storage, photographs, etc.); performing industrial and commercial facility effluent sampling events using grab and composite sampling techniques (automatic samplers); performing routine maintenance on automatic samplers; performing extensive laboratory and field tests using analytical instruments such as spectrophotometers, pH meters, balances and related instruments in order to identify various conventional and toxic pollutants that may be present in wastewater; reviewing data collections to assist in assessing the compliance status of permitted industrial and commercial facilities; reviewing plans and pretreatment applications to assist in preparing commercial/industrial wastewater discharge permits; coordinating and performing sampling activities required for local limit evaluations and for quarterly bioassay evaluations; providing support and assistance to the Pretreatment Coordinator in assessing industrial and commercial facilities for non-compliance and providing direction with follow-up activities in achieving and maintaining compliance with permit requirement; in cooperation with the Pretreatment Coordinator may provide direction to industrial and commercial facilities in the proper storage of virgin chemical used in facility processes as well as hazardous and non-hazardous wastes generated via facility operations; preparing orders for chemicals, supplies, and equipment as needed to conduct inspections, sampling events and analytical testing; entering and evaluating data using Access and Excel software; providing support to plant operations and collection system divisions; and performing related work as required.

Education & Applicant should be a high school or vocational school graduate with an Associate Degree inExperience**

Laboratory Science supplement with knowledge of wastewater treatment operations and controls with at least two years work experience or training in a wastewater laboratory and wastewater treatment facility, with experience; or any equivalent combination of education and or experience.
Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Access. Must have excellent communications skills in order to explain and enforce Pretreatment Standards with industrial and commercial facilities.

Special Note: Applicant must possess a valid Rhode Island Driver’s license. A Driver’s license check for last two years will be performed. Negative findings may prevent applicant from being considered.
