Performs, under close supervision, selected assignments of simple to moderate difficulty in one of the major functional areas of human resources management; and performs other related duties as required.
The are two (2) vacancies with the Department of Human Resources:
- The vacancy in the Classification & Pay Division performs as an advanced trainee in learning the principles, techniques, laws, methodology, and work processes pertaining to classification and pay activities (e.g., systematic evaluation of duties, responsibilities, scope, and complexity of a position to determine the job title and specifications that best matches the job; assessment of the impact to positions based on organizational changes; determination of the appropriate pricing for new classes, differentials, and other pay matters).
- The vacancy in the Employment & Personnel Services Division, Examination Branch, performs as an advanced trainee in learning the principles, techniques, laws, methodology and work processes pertinent to examination activities; receives selected work assignments with specific instructions and is able to perform simple to progressively moderate assignments in examination; and performs other related duties in support of the City’s examination program.
A Human Resources Specialist II (HRS II) (SR-18) may progress up the career ladder with satisfactory work experience up to a HRS V (SR-24). There may be promotional opportunities above the HRS V level.

Work experience may be substituted for the bachelors degree on a year-for-year basis. Such experience must have provided the knowledge, skills, and analytical ability normally gained from attainment of a bachelors degree.
(b) Six months of professional human resources management work experience pertinent to classification and pay (e.g., systematic evaluation of duties, responsibilities, scope, and complexity of a position to determine the job title and specifications that best matches the job; assessment of the impact to positions based on organizational changes; determination of the appropriate pricing for new classes, differentials, and other pay matters) or examination (i.e., employment testing and assessment).
A Masters degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration or Public Administration from an accredited college or university may be substituted for the one year of the professional human resources management work experience.

Most work experience in a supervisory or managerial position includes responsibility for human resources management functions. However, if the primary responsibility of the position is not concerned with professional human resources management work, such experience is not considered qualifying.
Clerical or technical experience in a human resources management program involving work which is limited to the application of human resources management rules, regulations and procedures in support of the human resources management functions described above is not qualifying.
Having the required number of years of experience will not in itself be accepted as qualifying for the position. Your overall experience must have been of such scope, level and responsibility as to conclusively demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of the position.
LICENSE REQUIREMENT :
Possession of an appropriate valid drivers license, as required. The current vacancy does not require a drivers license.
