HIM Associate I (Remote)
Job Summary:
The HIM Associate I is responsible to collect, maintain, and make records available in a timely, accurate, and complete manner for all end users in the EMR.

- High School Degree or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications:
- Meditech Experience
- Hospital or physician office experience
- Previous experience in the handling of patient health information, medical records document imaging, and/or medical records
- Medical Terminology
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Preps, verifies, and organizes all documents received to ensure record is complete.
- Ensures all discharges are received daily
- Scans and/or uploads records to the EMR ensures consistency in the quality of scanned images for all medical records.
- Indexes and labels records appropriately stays apprised of changes in labeling standards.
- Revises and maintains educational guides as changes occur.
- Completes quality checks, returns documents to departments when necessary, and provides education to personnel.
- Retrieves paper medical records and/or microfilm/fiche from storage.
- Works cooperatively with team-mates to include process improvement projects, cross-training, or assisting with questions in area of expertise.
- Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein
Infection Control: Initial and Ongoing trainings could include but are not limited to, blood borne pathogens, bodily fluids and bio hazardous materials as it applies to your daily work environment.

HIPAA: This position will have access to the following Protected Health Information in order to carry out the duties related to their position at Hays Medical Center based on the following criteria:
Primary – required (routine) to do the job
Secondary – required for the job, but mostly be exception and
None – no approved access

Patient Demographic Information (information used to identify a person): Name, Date of Birth, Address, Race, Marital Status, Religion
Clinical Information (information that describes a patient’s health status): Diagnosis, Reports/Medical Notes, Test Results, Problem List, Procedures, History and Physical
Financial Information/Insurance (information related to insurance, billing and payment): Billing Information, Payer Name, Payer ID, Account Balances, Plan Elements Covered, Payment Information, Payment Rates
Coding Information (clinical information that is in (alpha) numeric format): ICD-9 Codes, Rev Codes, CPT Codes
