Supervises and participates in the research, analysis and design of complex Geographic Information System (GIS) projects and applications; or manages, evaluates and monitors the operation of the GIS database; and performs other related duties as required.
Current vacancy: There is one (1) vacancy with the Department of Planning & Permitting, Administration Office. Under the supervision of the Citys Geographic Information System Administrator, the incumbent functions as the City GIS data base manager, and as the lead GIS Analyst and working supervisor of GIS projects and applications. Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
- Oversees the development of standards and specifications for all data entered into the GIS database,
- Oversees the writing implementation, and testing of the most difficult and complex GIS software programs for GIS data access and query capabilities.
- Assists in managing and monitoring GIS contract services.
- Coordinates with departmental representatives to develop and determine GIS resource requirements.
- Performs other duties related to GIS work and other related duties as required.

Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four year college or university with a bachelors degree in physical or natural science, geography, engineering, planning, computer science or a related field. Work experience may be substituted for the bachelors degree on a year-for-year basis. Such experience must have provided the knowledge, skills, and analytical ability normally gained from attainment of a bachelors degree.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT :
Such experience must have demonstrated knowledge of the concepts and principles of GIS: geography as it applies to GIS; mapping, cartography, surveying and photogrammetry; GIS and relational database management concepts and theories; operations, characteristics and capabilities of various types of GIS computer and peripheral equipment; and the ability to analyze, correlate and evaluate thematic map data and records; design and create maps, graphics and data reports; effectively communicate and document GIS data and programming requirements as defined by users; and plan, assign, coordinate and direct the work of others.
Having the required number of years of experience will not in itself be accepted as qualifying for the position. Your overall experience must have been of such scope, level and responsibility as to conclusively demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of the position.
LICENSE REQUIREMENT :
Possession of a valid appropriate drivers license (Type 3/automobile), as required.
