About this Position

Under the close supervision of a Lead Journeyman Lineman or Crew Supervisor, the entry-level Electric Apprentice performs unskilled work assisting linemen in construction, maintenance, and repair of power distribution systems. This electric apprenticeship includes assisting team members to coordinate the work of operation and maintenance personnel to ensure safe, efficient job performance with quality results. The electrical apprentices work will be closely inspected at all times.

Candidates must live within a 30-minute radius to limit response time.

Responsibilities

  • Assist team members with operating and maintaining the distribution system and facilities
  • Perform work under close supervision on non-energized circuits
  • Learn to climb poles or ride in bucket to construct, maintain, and repair distribution power lines
  • Learn construction standards, code requirements, and specifications
  • Learn and understand safety programs, constantly talk safety, and prepare input as required
  • Learn to read and interpret electrical power circuit plans and specifications
  • Learn the methods, practices, and equipment of electrical line maintenance, installation, and service
  • Start the certification process of the four-year correspondence studies of the City of Edmond Electric Departments Lineman Apprenticeship Training Program
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and materials, and guard against loss or damage
  • Understand and practice the City of Edmond Code of Ethics and Business Conduct guidelines

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
    • Or office and field experience equivalent to 4 years of high school
  • 7-11 months of related experience and/or training
    • Or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Prior lineman training (preferred)
  • Valid Oklahoma Drivers License and a driving record acceptable to the Citys insurance carrier

Necessary Skills

  • Willingness and availability to perform standby duties or be on call-back during off duty hours (must live within a 30-minute radius)
  • Ability to meet the required physical standards for this position
  • Ability to pass extensive background process and pre-employment drug and audio screenings
