Elder Facilitator

SUMMARY: The Elder Facilitator is crucial to the continued success and service delivery of the Healthy Families department. He/She will engage with department staff, clientele, and other Elders by offering guidance, support, and encouragement based on regional cultural values and through the sharing of personal experiences, stories, and cultural knowledge on a daily and monthly basis.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Speak/share personal experiences, stories, and cultural knowledge during Healthy Families Workshops.
• Speak/share personal experiences, stories, and cultural knowledge during Qasgiq Sessions.
• Speak/share personal experiences, stories, and cultural knowledge at community gatherings.
• Speak/share personal experiences, stories, and cultural knowledge with Healthy Families Staff on a daily basis.
• Travel to communities within the AVCP region to assist with Healthy Families Workshops and community gatherings.
• Model a positive attitude, and healthy behaviors.
• Adhere to confidentiality policies.

QUALIFICATIONS: Elder from the AVCP Region Must be living in Bethel, Alaska.

EXPERIENCE: The Elder Facilitator will be knowledgeable of the AVCP region cultural values, stories, and traditional ways of living. He or She will be open and willing to share life lessons through personal experiences, stories, and cultural knowledge, and, must be comfortable and willing to speak to large groups of people.
