Nature of Work



Under the general supervision of the Director of Museums, the Cultural Program Associate/Guest Services will provide friendly, informative public assistance to visitors at the West Virginia State Museum and the Department of Arts, Culture and History. The Cultural Program Associate will enhance the publics experience at the State Museum by providing a variety of services including: meeting and greeting visitors offering information and assistance by showing them maps and brochures about the museum assisting with wayfinding and suggesting various methods of experiencing the exhibits depending on their interests and abilities (special needs services). The Cultural Program Associate will provide exceptional telephone service and respond accurately to inquiries be capable of disseminating information be aware of programs, events, tours, classes, and museum activities and know where to refer calls and questions participate in additional training events as scheduled work on related clerical tasks from other museum staff as appropriate (i.e., Education and Operations). Must have experience dealing with people in a variety of ways have desire to learn about the State Museum friendly, out-going personality desire to assist visitors good communication skills. Previous office experience is helpful, but not required. Work schedule will include some evenings and weekends. Successful criminal background check may be a condition of employment.

Minimum Qualifications

Training: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in the area of assignment or a student planned curriculum degree from an accredited 4-year college or university with course work in business and the arts.

Substitution: Paid or volunteer experience directly related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
