Position description
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of California Berkeley seeks an Assistant Project Scientist to work with Professor Norman Abrahamson in the interface between seismology and earthquake engineering, focusing on the practical application of advances in seismology to the development of ground-motion models for use in deterministic and probabilistic analyses for estimation of design ground motions and seismic risk.
The Assistant Project Scientist will carry out research developing earthquake ground-motion models from small-magnitude events (M1 to M5) for use in evaluating methods for simulating ground motions using AI and for testing the accuracy of 3-D velocity models for path effects from simulations. The research will also involve comparison of path effects from macro-intensity data with path effects in ground-motion data from small-magnitude earthquakes. The Assistant Project Scientist is expected to present the results in conferences and co-author papers for submission to peer-reviewed publications.
